I'm a new mother to my 10 month old daughter and newly single and currently at home. She is having a hard time doing anything without me. I'm worried because now all of my activities I'm holding her at the hip! I've started to let her watch cartoons on the iPad but I know it's not good for her. It's the only thing that works! I hate to hear her cry when I put her down... What activities do you ladies use to keep your baby dutifully occupied while you do essential tasks?!! HELP!

She is right on the mark for separation anxiety. You do not need to cave to her every cry. Play with her a bit and then tell her you are going do do mama's work, leave her to self entertain. Keep talking to her, sing to her and peek out so she can see you. Will she cry? Yes. Is it harming her? No. When you return, tell her, "see I am back!" She will learn to soothe herself and to play alone for 15-20 minutes. You do not need to have her on your hip or play with her all day. I'd limit the cartoons if not eliminate them, it is just too easy a habit to make.
