I've had 6 children and most I didn't get my period back for about 6 months. My 4th I got my period back after just 6 weeks. My 6th I didn't get my period back for almost a year which was really nice. If you're not nursing your period will resume fairly quickly. That is totally normal. When you're nursing exclusively it usually doesn't come back until solid foods are introduced although as I mentioned with my 4th one it resumed right away in spite of nursing, which was disappointing.

I had post bleeding for 5 weeks after delivering my son. I thought it was a weird thing to bleed that long but it is normal. about a month after that I started my period just like before getting pregnant. I nursed my son for 18 months and had a normal period the whole time. It really depends on your body.

I got my period 6 weeks after I gave birth.. I went in for my check up and the the doc said u'll start ur period any day and u need to get on birth control ASAP bcuz ue fertile.. sure enough 2 days later and a couple days later I was on BC..and I was breastfeeding since day one..
i like to post a reply to the person who said breastfeeding is like a method of birth control, this is a false statement, you CAN GET PREGNANT while breatfeeding, my friends daughter was 4 monthes old when she got pregnant with her second and she was breastfeeding. just want people to know that it is possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding and for the question at hand every person is different and some get periods right away and some don't, mine came back normal like they were before i got pregnant and i breastfeed till he was 7 months old, i was lucky i guess, cus some friends of mine changed alot after a baby. and had more irregular periods for the first few months after child birth

i think it varies for everyone. mine didn't come back until 7mos postpartum (a mo after i stopped breastfeeding)...but some friends of mine got theirs within 6 weeks...as long as you're sure you're not pregnant again i wouldn't worry too much. but it's always a good idea to share your concerns w your doctor.

Hi Jennifer, I think it is different for everyone depending on how your body responds to all the adjustments it is having to make. I didn't have my first period after my son was born until he was almost 6 months old, but one of my girlfriends got her's alot earlier.
That all depends on your own body as well as if you are breast feeding or not. I breast fed both my babies and as long as I was breast feeding I did not get my period and my second son I breasft fed until he was almost 1. So a lot of things can influence when you get your period.
after my first baby it took about 4 weeks after i stopped bleeding (so 10 weeks after the birth). i was put on birth control when my youngest baby was just 4 weeks old, so my first period after her was 8 weeks after she was born.
as a note, i had gland issues and could not breastfeed. my first one breastfed during the day for those first 6 weeks and my youngest only breastfed for a week before nothing was coming out and i had to go to bottles. my older sister didn't have her first period after birth until her daughter stopped breastfeeding - at about 14 months old.
hope this helps! :)

My son was born Aug. 28th, 2008 & I just had my first period at the end of September, 2009!! I am still nursing only once at night, so I'm sure it's due to nursing. However, since I'm turning 38 in a few weeks, I would like to be back to normal so I can hopefully get pregnant again quickly!
I breastfeed my son until he was a year. My periods came back around six months when he was starting solids. It was a lot heavier, longer, and a lot more cramping the first several months. Eventually they weren't as long, but still longer than before him.

With my first baby I got it the 3rd month and then the 5th month and then got pregnant again the 6th month! It skipped the 4th month. So, even though it came back it didn't come back regularly. Now, with my second baby, I am entering month 5 and no period yet! I breastfed/breastfeed both times.

well I bleed for the about 8 wks after delivery and then about a month later got my first period and it last for about 2 months and I was breast feeding, so I never believed that nursing has anything to do with it. I just think everyones body is different

With my oldest, I stopped breastfeeding when she was 6 months old and didn't get my period until she was 9 months old. This time around, I had one around my 6 week check up and haven't had one since (daughter is 5 1/2 months old now).

i personally got mine about 6weeks after giving birth, and i was only able to nurse for about a month, im not sure if how long u nurse effects it but your body will let u know, everyone is different. if u feel there to be a problem or some thing isnt right, give your doctor a call, im sure they will be more than happy ease your concerns

My first period was about 3 months after my c-section. I tried to nurse but didn't have any luck so I pumped for a few weeks until I dried up. So only a total of 4 weeks of nursing. Mine we lighter for a long time. I started on B.C pills at six weeks though so maybe that had something to do with it. Good luck!

I had heard that nursing would delay your period, but with my first baby it came back right away!!! Man was I bummed. 6 weeks, boom, there's my "friend". I believe the 2nd & 3rd ones it was closer to 2 or 2 1/2 months. I nursed each of them til almost a year. (Did wonders for the weight, I lost ALL of it within 6 weeks with each.) I also didn't have cramps until after my first was born.

My son just turned 4 months old, and I still haven't gotten mine. I'm still nursing, but my mother-in-law said she didn't get hers until 9 months after her first. It really just depends on your body. If you are concerned about being pregnant, buy a home pregnancy test. If you still aren't sure, go see a doctor.
