Formaldehyde is a preservative used in many of our personal care products today. So my reaction when I learned this was, really? Embalming fluid on my children? This has been linked to cancer and other health issues so why is this allowed? Because the personal care industry is not regulated by the FDA so they can pretty much put anything in the products you and your children use every single day.

Take a look at the link below for more deatail on what specific products were tested..

This was just a list of the ones tested. . Most popular brands. Doesn't necessarily mean that others don't have the same issues. Botanically based or organic products would be the best choice to ensure you're protecting yourself and your family.

Tyrae, thank you, I did check out the link and we do not use anything on it, but the list is not really exhaustive, I guess they tested most popular brands.

This is why I use 98% plant based products on my daughter. Like Live Clean baby.

Do I have a list of banned products? no not on me! lol
I'm in Canada.

I know there was that thing about plastic baby bottles containing BPA that are restricted in Canada. As far as I know plastic baby bottles in the US still contain BPA. They won't sell those products here.

Yes the EU has very strict guidelines as to what goes in their products. They have banned over 1100 ingredients while the US. . Only 13!! It's sad but as consumers we have to dig deeper sometimes and understand what we're using every day. . I am actually a consultant for Arbonne which offers botanically based personal care products. . If you'd like to learn more just let me know because I'm very happy to offer safe products that follow the same rules as the EU :)

Because these products were imported into our country from the US and we discovered that they had formaldehyde and 1, 4 dioxane in them. So they never hit our shelves. Our country always does rigorous testing on US products before they sell them here. Because our guidelines are not the same and many ingredients used in the US are banned here. Like 1, 4 dioxane.

Jenni, Just curious, but how do you know that these chemicals are not found in the products in other countries? Is there an accessible list of what is not allowed?

The article says that : " the dangerous chemicals can form during the manufacturing process as other ingredients break down" it does not say what those chemicals are so as the consumer can we know what those other chemicals are?

Oh boy, I'm so glad I don't live in the USA. They allow so much toxins into your products that we have strict guidelines and restrictions on in other countries. :(
