Found out today my 12 month old is mildly aniemic. Feeling guilty.

I know what to do to get his iron up (iron drops, more fortified foods, more naturally iron-rich foods, vitamin C with every meal), but I feel this incredible guilt that I wasn't being careful enough with making sure he got enough iron. Especially since I am vegan (so is he), and I know how important it is to get enough iron. I feel like I've let him down. :(

Thanks Chet MC. You are so right. Trying to look ahead...
He doesn't have any symptoms of anemia (no pale skin, lethargy, or crankiness), it was just a routine check. And he is on track developmentally, so there isn't anything really to worry about, I just feel like I should have been more careful. He had his blood drawn this morning for a CBC to double check that the finger prick test was accurate. I felt so guilty when he cried out that I cried too! :(

Don't be so hard on yourself. You feel bad because you're clearly a great mom, but you need to look forward not backward. The important thing is that now you know and are addressing the situation. Was he even showing symptoms or did they just find it on a routine test?
