My baby is 3 weeks and the past few days i have been having difficutly breastfeeding, he is gassy and when he eats he starts to cry, i know he is hungry and he will drink for a few minutes then he starts to fuss and he brings up his legs and starts to cry. He is still having wet diapers but i dont know if he is still getting enough milk. I don't know what to do.. Any suggestions?

You can try laying him on his back and bicycling his legs, making sure to burp him after eating, and maybe using infant gas relief drops. These are comfort measures, but the lasting solution is to figure out what is causing excess gas. Things to think about:

Has he ingested anything other than breastmilk? Anything at all?

How is your letdown? Is he gulping/choking when he starts nursing? Does he have a good latch so that he isn't swallowing air?

Do you eat milk and dairy products? Do you eat anything that his father or other biological family members are allergic to? Is there any specific that you've eaten an unusually large amount of in the past few days?
