I trained my daughter to sleep in her own room when she was about 2. Pretty much all I would do was keep putting her back in her room. Yes it takes a while for them to get the point but it is worth it. You have to stay firm with her and tell her that she will be sleeping in her room for now on. That big girls sleep in their own big girl bed.

Explain to her that you aren't mad at her and she will always be your girl, but she still needs to sleep in her own bed. I never used the baby gate with mine. She would come into the living room and I would get up, walk her back to her bedroom, and put her back in the bed. I wouldn't speak, I would just walk her back to her bed.
