Getting induced at 37 weeks is it a good idea or bad?

okay so this is my first pregnancy I'm 25 weeks & thank god everything is good so far with my baby & me, but my doctor told me he wanted to induce me at 37 weeks so that I don't push out a big baby... I'm kinda confused because I thought induction was due to being past your due date or something... help!!!

I was induced, and I say DON'T DO IT! My son was due Sep 26. They wanted to induce me on Sep 23 or 24. I let them begin induction on Sep 27 because my doctor kept telling me that I was going to have a big baby. My son, who just turned 3 today, was born weighing 7lbs 6oz. If you live in the US, I really feel like doctors and hospitals try to talk women into inductions and c-sections because they make them more money. That is a terrible reason to go through a medical procedure, no matter what it is!

Typically yes, induction is for when you are past your due date or when it is medically necessary at an earlier date. I don't think it would go for an induction just on the chance of a 'big baby', but it really depends on the person's body. I know a woman who's just about 5' and she delivered a 9lb something ounce baby with no problems whatsoever. Then I also know a woman a bit over 5' who gave birth to a baby just under 6lbs and if he had been any bigger she would've needed a c-section cuz he wouldn't have come out.

Huh. That is kind of odd. And you're right, usually thy DO induce if there are complications. Or in my case I just don't dilate. Why does he/she think you're going to have a big baby?
