I find it so difficult to get my kids carry out a routine. Like time to do homework, clean up after playing, morning routine before going to school. They always drag and finally I have to shout to get them do anything on time. I just hate shouting and it ends with me feeling very down. Any advice on how to improve..

I agree with the chart my kids are 6yr and 9yr and are up at 6am every morning. They both make there bed, make sure there room is clean, get something to eat, make there lunch if they are having cold lunch that day, eat, clean up there mess in the kitchen , make sure all dirty cloths are in the washer, then they are free to watch TV or play till it is time for school. Both my kids are very structured and have been since they were little. But all so my kids chores free cards that they can use once a month to get out of doing chores for the day or certian chores for a day.

Draw up a chart with time allocations for each activity. If they don't do it in the time slot then take away privileges like TV, computer or play time with friends. Have a timer set up so they know that when the buzzer goes their time is up.

In the mornings let them know that you will be leaving at a certain time and if they are not ready they will be going how they are. If they are still in their pyjama's then they will go to school in their pyjamas. If they haven't made lunch then they will go hungry. My boys learnt quickly that if they didn't get organized they wouldn't get any sympathy. They are 11.5 and 9 and make their own lunch everyday for school and get themselves organized.

They will soon learn that if they don't do what they are told and when, they will lose the things they really want to do.
