My oldest is turning four, but definitely a consistent routine usually does the trick. Also stay on schedule as much as possible.

And we have two routines, one shortened version for nights when we get in later.

Then of course, you've always got sticker charts - 5 in a row, and she gets a prize.

I found with my daughter who is 4 that the strict evening schedule is the key...during the week bath time, then snack time, then bed time...she did not like it at first and kept trying to get up, or jump on the bed (that kind of thing) but after about a month it was easy...She knows when things will happen and in what order. On the weekends she stays up late and sleeps in and stays in her p.j.'s as long as she when I tell her it's bed time she jumps into bed, and waits for me to read one story...5 mins after leaving the room she's out cold by 8:05pm...It has really improved her attitude and it's easier to get her going at 6 in the morning.
