Your baby should get all the liquid it needs from formula or breast milk. At 6 months, you should be starting to introduce some solid foods, just to get your baby used to different textures. A little bit of water now and then is ok, but they still need the nutrients from the formula/breast milk. Too much water can reduce absorption of nutrients and/or make the child feel full so they don't eat as much as they should. If you live in an area where they add a lot of fluoride to the water supply, then you should be careful about giving tap water, as it can hurt the teeth still forming in the gums. Distilled water would be better.
