Going back to work and introducing formula, any brands/types recommended that's most similar to breast milk?

All the brands of formula are more like each other than they're like breast milk. There isn't really one that's closer to human milk, no matter what the manufacturer claims.

A couple of our kids got formula as young toddlers. I specifically bought store brands, and not name brands. Reading the labels they looked the same. And the big formula companies have such ridiculously huge advertising and promotion budgets that I felt the big price difference wasn't about the quality of the product so much as it was about the huge cost of advertising their brand name product.

If your baby hasn't started solids yet though you might need to experiment with different brands to find one that agrees with your baby. Some babies have less or more gas, constipation or spit up with certain brands. Some parents find that they just prefer certain brands because they mix better, or are more readily available.

Have you thought about pumping and just giving expressed milk?

It would be reasonable to try soy formula, or reduced iron formula, and see if either of those help the situation.

Also, if she can be supplemented with formula and expressed milk mix while you're at work, and you continue to nurse when you're home with, that might be enough breast milk to stop the discomfort from starting up.

I have been pumping but am not making enough milk and want to slowly introduce formula before going back to work. I like using only breast milk, but its not going to be feasible. I have tried the premixed Enfamil gentlease as well as Enfamil and Target's powder formula. I mix 0.5 to 1 ounce formula with 2 ounces of breast milk and after a few days she is having trouble with bowel movements and seems to struggle to have them. When I'm exclusively using breast milk there is no trouble. Wondering if she will eventually get use to the formula?
