I am 8 weeks pregnant and i am having a hard time breathing, after seeing 5 diffrent doctors i was finally told that i have a tumor in my nasal cavity and they want to do a CAT SCAN in a few days and i am so nervous on how its going to effect the baby(or should i say fetus). The doctor said he would have them put extra covering over my belly and since its only going to be my head that will be scanned but i cant stop thinking about the risks, would love to hear other moms get some reassurance that this is the right thing to do if any mothers have had a Cat scan during their 1st trimester would love to know how everything tuned out thanks in advance!

Katherine is right as usual :-) It is only your head and does not involve the rest of the body. There is really no risk at all, don't worry about it. Go and see what is wrong with you and get right before your beautiful baby makes an appearance into the world.

You need to go ahead and do it so you can find out what the problem is. I'd be more worried about the tumor and how it will affect your life and the life of your baby than the scan that's not going anywhere near your baby. This tumor is already in your body! Find out what it is and how to get rid of it fast!

Hi. I had three brain surgeries for a brain tumor. No one can tell when they meet me and are very surprised when they find out. I also gave birth to three beautiful children after having gone through this. As a result of my medical past a MRI was required within two weeks prior to giving birth. Each MRI required contrast because of the type of tumor. All three of my children are totally fine. They are all very smart and do great in school. My youngest is an eight year old.

I am an OB nurse of 35 years. Be sure to discuss any treatments with your obstetrician. A CAT scan of your head is safe as long as your abdomen is covered.

I've never had a CT scan but it's only your head and they will put a covering on you. You have to get it done and I think you'll be just fine. The baby will be fine too :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Veronica. I know that you must feel very scared and alone right now, but other women HAVE gone through this before, you are not alone. (((hugs)))

I am so sorry Veronica. What is the plan? Have the doctors talked with you about treatment options and how it will effect your pregnancy?

I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I will say a prayer and hope God will give you peace and strength through this. Your baby has already helped you...you may not have caught it early had it not been that you became pregnant.

You need to have it done. A CT scan bares minimal risks to you and you baby in comparison to what a tumor can do. Don't stress about it and get healthy for the sake of you and your baby. It will probably have to be removed while you are pregnant too, and that is also okay. Just remember that this is your baby's life too. Tumors can be cancerous and your doctors need to know if it is benign or not. Either way they will probably take it out.

Never had a CT while pregnant, but just had dental work done with X-rays. They were super cautious and so are most doctors. They understand the risks involved and will be taking extra pre-cautions to make sure you are alright. Plus, they wouldn't do it if they didn't feel it was necessary. Relax, if you can, and know that you are making the right choice. Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow and with the baby. That's a big stress load all at once and I'm sure after it's all over you will be doing great and so will baby :) Best wishes!!

I didn't have a cat scan when I was preg. But I did get a X-ray when I was about 7 weeks along on my hand for a broken finger. They but a double shield over me to make sure the baby was ok. My child is now 2 and she is ok. I think u will be ok. As long as u let the dr know ur preg so they know what steps to tak to make sure ur unborn baby is ok.
