My husband and I are wanting to take a trip without the kids in a few months, my daughters are two and five, I sort of feel guilty but in need of some alone time with him, has anyone else left there kids for a week while on a vacation?

I don't see the issue with going away without your kids - I've done it and I'd do it again. While I agree with the sentiment that I chose to have my kids, I certainly don't have to remain tied to them constantly. My children have reliable grandparents who were more than capable of having them for a bit - if anything, it was a great way for the kids to spend time with their grandparents. Even now, my parents take my youngest (others are all adults with their own lives now) for a week over summer and I totally use this time for myself and my husband. Sometimes we go away, sometimes we don't, but I don't see my parents taking my kids camping for a week as any different to going and staying at their grandparents house while my hubby and I take some time out.

As long as noone is inconvenienced, no problem. But every family is different. If it works for you and your family, then great, nothing wrong with it. You shouldn't feel guilty.

Dove :
You have reason I misunderstood her post. I'am french, I did a bad translate of her post without an website to this.

She is brief guilty of his trip without the kids.
A week without kids it's as when the kids are during the holydays summer with the grand-father and grandmother.
If it's only a week, and no several months. No guilty to have.

Although it seems like you are saying that if they were going on a trip for a few months they should leave the 2 year old behind...? Which is completely insane....

Chris... in a few months she's going on a trip WITHOUT the kids... for only a week. I think you misunderstood her post.

I think you should do this trip with only your kid 5yo and no your two yo.
This kid of 2 yo is too young for a trip few months for me.

5 yo is enough, 4yo too, less it's very difficult.

Your kid will like this trip with his dad and you.

I have not, but I know people who have and I have zero objections to people doing it. It's only a week... as long as they are w/ someone they know well and that you trust... they'll be fine. It is SO important for mom and dad to stay connected. Regular date nights are a great way to do that, but a short vacation every couple of years or even every year is FINE.

I agree, I signed on to raise my kids, and I have...every single day. I suppose it is a family choice? I would not impose on my family to take my kids for a week.

Never did. My husband and I used the many opportunities presented by bedtimes, etc. My mother watched them overnight one whole time, and his wasn't close enough when they were those ages.

We didn't see the necessity of leaving them behind at those ages, but we had also decided not to do the whole 'get a sitter at every opportunity ' route, as that is how we were raised, and felt left out. We didn't do "date night". If we did go out once in a great while, we had highly trusted friends that would take them for an hour or two.

I guess, since we decided to be parents, we decided to commit to that with everything we could, so that our kids would have a quality upbringing.

Not that it is wrong, per we, but we just didn't choose to do so for such an extended period. Then again, I have never gotten the gist of spouses who take separate vacations either... 😋
