Hi Ladies , I received a call from a friend this morning that they saw my son skipping school . He is grade 10 in a small town so people care and see what kids are up too . Anyway he is doing fairly well in school ,has friends we have met and this is his first offence . I am having a struggle inside on what to do as far as discipline goes ? I did head out ,found him and delivered him back to the school office to chat with the Principle .He was to attend a motivational lecture this morning and says he found stuff like that too preachy that is why he skipped .And I did inform him on drive back to school that he could have discussed other options besides skipping! I wavier between taking away breathing privileges to just sitting down and talking and no punishment at all ? Please help ...Thanks Jacki

Well, he skipped without permission, and of course that is a punishable offense. I personally am not about going all out, and taking every little joy from their lives, but something to tell them you are serious. Definitely sit down and talk with him about how important school is. But I can honestly understand skipping a lecture like that. But mostly what I would hit home about is, what if something happened to him and no one knew where he was? Tell him for safety reasons, he needs to talk with you first if he is going to skip (if you are cool with that of course) so you at least know where he is, and who he is with.
