last evening our great-grandson age 8, was visiting. He went to the bathroom to pee and he was crying because it burned, I told his father when he picked him up and the response was: he masturbate so much that's why it hurts. I was in shock, he spends a lot of time with us even has sleepovers and I have never seeing it. The parents are split up and doing a horrible job with the boys 8 and 4, the father calls their mother all sort of disgusting names. She is our granddaughter, I'm so sad about the whole situation.

I agree w/ Michelle entirely. The boy needs to be seen by a doctor.

Masturbating won't cause pain, he has an infection that needs to be treated. Maybe contact your Granddaughter and say he needs to be taken to the doctor.
If you are really concerned about the children's wellbeing then you can make a report to CPS or whatever the child protection agency is called where you are.

Like Dove said even "babies" can self-stimulate. An 8 year old is not a baby either. However, whether or not this child is masturbating or not, he has a health issue that needs to be addressed.

Babies 'masturbate' too, Jessica.... It's not messed up. It's normal. The people who believe it's messed up are typically the people who were raised that touching your own body is somehow dirty or shameful... and that's how people often become adults w/ serious body issues.

Because I see an 8 year old as a baby and the thought of and 8 year old doing that seems messed up. Guess it just depends on how you are raised.

To clarify a few points from a medical standpoint. It is typical for children to masturbate even as toddlers. While he will not ejaculate until puberty, and 8 yo can get an erection and it is not uncommon to discover that self-stimulation feels good. However as I said before it is self-limiting, if it is causing you pain you stop, it is part of self-preservation instinct. Imagine you had a UTI or a yeast infection, you'd not be masturbating either.
Second, boys as a rule very, very, very get UTIs, unless there is an anatomical issue. If he is uncircumcised he may have a yeast infection under his foreskin.
This situation absolutely must be evaluated and the doctor is a mandated reporter. If he suspects abuse or neglect, he is bound by law to report to CPS

Why is an 8yo masturbating disturbing Jessica? It's completely natural and at that age it's not to ejaculate, they do it because it feels good.

I would contact CPS so they can monitor that situation...an 8 year old masterbating is completely disturbing to me and the fact his father would just throw that out there is a worry too...it is most likely a UTI causing the burning but doctor would know better

I am a school nurse and if a child, especially a male came to me and told me he had pain during urinating, I would call the parents and instruct them to take him to the doctor. If they refused, I would call CPS. Masturbation is a self limiting behavior; meaning if you are causing yourself pain, you stop.
