Are you getting your children vaccinated? Why or why not?

Ok typically I don't reply to posts....but this time I cannot help myself. Firstly...the article for PubMed simply refers to an ALTERNATIVE host cell for vaccine production...not where the current vaccine is produced. This is even stated in the articles title. Secondly, even if the vaccine is being used overseas, it cannot be used in the Unless it's FDA approved...which this is not. Currently there are 4 approved manufacturers for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine and they c`an be found on the FDA's website (http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHeal...) You will discover on this site that these vaccines are being produced using tried and true methods (not new) using chicken eggs. Hope this helps.

Luckily flu season was over here (Aust) before Lily was old enough to get it! However we are travelling to NY in their flu season early next year so we will definately give her the seasonal flu vaccine and will make a decision on the H1N1 vaccine closer to the time

I have spoken w/ 2 pediatricians, 3 nurses and a pharmacist to get their opinions. 5 out of 6 did not recommend vaccinating healthy children/adults for H1N1.

In my opinion, we are going overboard. Since when do we need to get a vaccination for every affliction under the sun? I remember some pretty serious flu outbreaks as a kid where the schools didn't close or the world shut down..there were just lots of absent kids! Our bodies never have a chance to strengthen the immune system w/ the constant stream of antibacterial products, antibiotics and vaccines we drown ourselves in. ---stepping down off of my soapbox :-)

No problem, Michelle! I don't think it's fair to put down other moms' choices (we all want the best for our kids!), so I hope it helps regardless of what decision you make! :-) In speaking about vaccines in general, I honestly did appreciate the book as well. I started out thinking I probably wouldn't vaccinate my kids (or would at least delay most of them), but after reading it, I felt a lot better about them, though in the end we decided not to go by the normal CDC schedule. He lays out a couple of alternative schedules for those of us who have concerns, and our kids will still be getting the majority of the regular vaccines, but I am much more comfortable with it.

Thank you very much! I printed the info off and will be sharing. Appreciate the link.

I tend to be pretty picky about what goes into my children's little bodies, so no, we will not be getting the H1N1 vaccine. There have been steps skipped within the testing & trial process, and that is never ok in my book, even if the vaccine is similar to others already in use.
I've done a bunch of my own research on this as well, and if you are looking for info on vaccines in general, check out The Vaccine Book by Dr. Robert Sears. He includes a lot of good info, and does a pretty good job (I think) of staying neutral.
For a summary of info on each of the four H1N1 vaccines currently approved by the FDA, go to this link: http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook... It lists ingredients, etc. There IS mercury in several brands of the multi-dose bottles (which tend to be the more convenient and cheaper for most medical practices).

Thank you everyone for the feedback!!

My family and I don't get a shot for the seasonal flu, so I was pretty sure my family would not be getting the H1N1 vaccination.

Thanks again!

i am a nurse and i am not getting this nor is my son and husband.....it is way to new and the only way i can describe it is you don't by the first model of a car things go wrong! I will wait for the kinks to be worked out. it is a very controversial thing and some docs are for it others are not. i know the cdc says its safe but i am still not going to let my son be one of the many to get this vaccine for the first time. as long are you are careful and wash your hands and are aware of your surroundings then you will be okay. it is just another strain of the flu in which there is no antibiotics that help even the tamiflu that is being prescribed only helps the symptoms it does not kill the virus. if you get sick plenty of rest, fluids and Tylenol/Advil for fevers and you will get thru it. seasonal flu does kill many ppl each year but this is because they have medical conditions that aided in the virus to take there body's over. the more this country and others are on antibiotics and meds like this the more viruses/bacteria will change there strain and become more powerful, i am a nurse who believes that letting your body rest and flushing out your system can work wonders. but you do what your heart tells you to do, only you can make up your own mind this is only my thoughts. do i believe in the vaccines we use yes and my son gets them all, will i give him the chicken pox probably not i had the chicken pox and i am living to tell the story things like this you must use your best judgment.

PS just want to say all vaccines that come in multi dose vials have thermasol in them to keep the vaccine viable over long periods of time it is not mercury and there is no link to this being a cause for any other things that children get. NO you child will not get autism or anything of the sort.

No vaccine for our family. My mom just had the h1n1 flu. It was pretty horrible for her, but she's better now. We don't vaccinate with the seasonal flu shots either.

I don't think we need to use a mother's question to fight about the issue. Take it somewhere else. Very unproductive. My son is too young to have the shot...but his father and I have gotten it...in the form of the nasal spray. An 11 year old girl died in our community last week and there is no way I could live with myself if something happened to my baby and I could have prevented it. That was my bottom line. I totally understand those who are nervous to take it themselves and to give it to their babies...I'm just giving my op on how we made our decision. This shot is around to save lives not take them...I don't think they left it up to the mad scientist.

As for our family, my husband has no choice in the military thet HAVE TO get them, being we have extremely high risk for just the regular influenza strains, we get those and we will be getting the H1N1 as well. Yes, I know the risks, and yes I have read medical journal entries on them, I'm going in with eyes wide open, and it will be with the multi stage vaccination, not the one stage, as the multi stage one has completed it's testing, no guinea pig here.

Okay, this has gone far enough. Every one needs to chill out and take some deep breaths. If this thread continues down this path I'm going to lock it. Keep it civil, ladies.

Jaime have fun at the chicken pox parties.

Do your research and find my replies on this and many many many posts regarding the H1N1 vaccine and my stance on vaccines.

Jaime put down the bong and lets hope your remaining brain cells can take over functions of the missing cells.

I am not getting my son or I vaccinated for H1N1. There is mercury in it which can cause damage in young children and the fetus's of pregnant women. That is why pregnant women and young children are not supposed to eat fish. I don't know anyone who has died from this virus, and don't know anyone who has even had a flu bug yet. The bigger danger, as far as I can tell, is the mercury. But that is only my opinion and I am still worried that it is not the right one. I don't have all the answers and believe everyone should decide what is best for themselves and their family.

AW Tanya - I guess you think you've hurt my feelings? think again, BAWAHAHAHA

I've posted a whole crap load on this h1n1 vaccine and my thoughts on it. Its hardly my fault you're to ignorant to look up old posts and get the back story before commenting.

Monkey kidneys, lmfao - I'm still laughing - email sent, along with a link to this page, BAWAHAHAHAHAHA now I gotta answer my kids questions about why this is so funny.

Go dress your kid in some hemp underwear.

Wow, that is extremely unproductive and rude.  I have to assume then that you will inject your children with any old crap that these companies shove down your throat.  Here is my own rude and unproductive comment learn to think for yourself drone.

That's really immature, if you don't believe me, all you have to do is google it. Since you're not willing to do that, I've done it for you...http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/article...

I would suggest reading into the lawsuit, which goes into the actual studies against this option and what the potential outcome could be. But...it's okay..keep laughing.

No, and you shouldn't either. There have been reports out of the UK and Germany that this vaccine is grown from green African monkey kidneys (not eggs, which is typical). These kidneys carry the Simian 40 virus and there is a law suit right now that suggests this vaccine could cause an AIDS like reaction. EIther way, on a very simple level, H1N1 will mutate most assuradly and the vaccine will be of no use any way. It doesn't make sense to pump your child full of chemicals (insert shows there is spermicide, squalene and mercury), viruses, and who knows what else...IMHO they would be just more susceptible.
