OK so i had my darling daughter last year just after christmas and i was fine, fit and healthy until about 4 months after giving birth where my hair started falling out. lots of it. like clumps of it when i brush my hair, wash my hair, put my fingers through my hair, tie my hair up and it has continued and is still happening. im surprised im not bald yet. i have lots of little tuffty bits and no bald spots so i assume its growing back but it has alarmed me greatly and still freaks me out. im breastfeeding still and i think its from post baby hormones. i just want to know if anyone else has had this problem because ive talked to alot of mums and im still yet to find one. i have been to two drs and they say its normal.

My hair started falling out straight away since having my first baby in feb this year , it was coming out in clumps snapping off now I've got short thick tufty bits, I had long thing hair now it's really thin and had to have it cut shorter . My hair dresser said it's perfectly normally after you're pregnancy and also stress can make it worse especially if you've had a difficult birth , apparently there's not much you can do to stop it falling out but you can limit it by not washing it to often I made a mistake by washing it every day . You just have to let it run it's course , eventually it will stop , can take up to a year but it will grow back thicker and healthier!! Netty

It's normal. I had the same issue. During the pregnancy and shortly after your hair is usually perfect and then all of the sudden a couple of months later you start losing in most cases clumps of your hair. Your body is trying to get back to itself.

My SIL told me to take silica tablets and stuff to try and get my hair and nails back to normal

I survived post baby baldies. My doctor suggested I take my prenatal vitamins. Two years later I am back to normal. But. when I was pregnant (and after baby) with my son I had thick, full, long, luxurious hair. I had the audacity to be annoyed it was so thick I was not used to dealing with "such thick hair".
The following year I became pregnant with my daughter. Like you, about 4 months after baby was born I was losing my hair. It was washing & combing huge tumbleweeds of hair. Yes, I understand how alarming it is. I suffered but I survived. And you will survive too.

I have the same problem! On mine you can see the little hairs on my head where it is growing back. I have to clean my brush out like every other day. It must be the hormone thing because I have a sixmonth old and am still nursing. Fortunately it is growing back in.

Yes. I had exactly the same problem. It started when my son was about 3 months old and lasted for about 6 months or so? then it got better. It was horrible though, I would crawl around on the carpet with a lint roller and pick up as much hair as I could so as not to plug the vaccuum with it. my boyfriend thought I was crazy. until he used the vacuum on the steps and clogged the vacuum after only 3 steps, then we got the lint roller out. I breastfed my son for 16 months and it did not last the entire time so I think you should be coming to an end soon! My hair stylist actually warned me about it before I had him so I wasn't in total shock. oh and it happened to my friend and she didn't nurse very more than a couple weeks so I really do think it's one of those thing that happens. hang in there !

I had the same issue after having my son what I ended up having to do was cut my hair into a short doo for awhile and let it grow back healthier.

Thanks for the responses, it puts me at ease knowing others have experienced this horrendous hair loss. i will go back on my pregnancy vitamins to see if that helps. bianca is almost one now and im so sick of it falling out all the time. its all over my house.

It is normal you don't loose as much hair when pregnant so when you aren't anymore all that hair comes out. It doesn't matter if you breastfeed or not it'll happen.

This is absolutely, perfectly normal to have hair loss after you have your baby. This is because your scalp retains alot more hair than usual during pregnancy, so after you have your baby, heaps falls out because that is what you were meant to lose during those 9 months. I started losing heaps of hair about three months after giving birth. I know quite a number of mums that this has happened to so dont worry! I was lucky and was pre-warned by a friend that I would lose lots of hair after I gave birth. But I was afraid to go to the hairdresser lol because I didnt want to have to explain my hairloss! It will eventually return to normal.

I kept all my hair after my first child, but after my second child, omg it was horrendous! I too thought I was going to end up bald! But it did stop eventually. I started taking my prenatal vits again just to be extra safe (they are great for hair).
