My son is recently getting over this disease and his nails have been falling off as one of the side effects of the disease. I kinda scares me though..But I just got to keep him on liquids, more fruit and vitamins. Has anyone ever gone through this because even having 3 kids it scares me because I've heard it's contagious...

It IS contagious. I don't think it's particularly dangerous, but it's not fun at ALL. My son had it, and wasn't too bad, but he didn't want to eat for several days -- he drank milkshakes, though. I then wound up contracting it, and had it much worse than him. I had a bad fever for a day, and then really painful sores all in my mouth and throat. You know how your throat feels if you have a shard of popcorn kernel stuck in there after eating popcorn? Imagine your entire mouth and throat feeling like that. Plus, the skin on my hands was full of tiny blisters and then peeled.

So you might not be in for the most fun time in your life. Just keep an eye on them for fever, and if they get it, make lots of milkshakes. I was living off of iced cappucinos for a few days.

Thanks for the info. My son had a fever first, then he started getting those red spots on his heels, hands around his mouth, and small parts of his body. They are still peeling now and it worried me but researching everything made it easier for me to handle it. What freaked me out was the nails peeling..He has it on about 7 nails and 1 big toe. Luckily my other 2 children havent gotten it but thank you very much Im still gonna keep an eye out just in case.
