Imani is walking and has been for about a month now. I bought her the hard bottom shoes, but her baby sitter says that she shouldn't wear those because those are too hard for her and won't give her any flexibilty... Should she wear the hard bottoms or continue to wear the softer, middle stage shoes??

hmmmm... Hard bottomed shoes are more for looks and only if the 'must' wear shoes. The best thing for young ones is...bare feet. Unless outside, walking sidewalks and then shoes should be comfortable fitting- not too hard and not too tight or loose. Young ones use their toes to help them gain balance. A sort of 'grips its' thing...lol

You can tell when a shoe doesn't feel right to them too..they do that foot slap thing when they try to walk to they start to stagger off to one side or the other... lol Personally I let mine go bare foot as long as they weren't ut on the side walk and if we were going out they wore soft sandals...

For Emma - Soft soled shoes are any shoe that move with the foot... If you bend your foot and the shoe bends with... it's soft soled. If the shoe remains rigid then it is a hard sole.

To hard bottom shoes, my grand son started with stride rite shoe the where soft . He is feet turn in , he legs are bowed and he is flat footed. The doctor said if he had worn the hard bottom shoe it would have help correct it. He now wares a hard plastics brace that looks a lot like the old hard shoe. So u tell me who's making money.30.00 co-pays and has therapy . Honey Ganny

Why does she need shoes? She's exploring with her toes and bare feet to feel what's happening as she enjoys her newfound ability. If you really need to put her in shoes, go for something that has good traction while she's still not steady on her feet.

I thought after they start walking well they can have hard-soled shoes. But I'm not an expert.
