My son is having to lose weight. Our family is on the large side. My husband and I are both overweight. Now our son is too. I have been monitoring the food brought in but to no avail. When I took my son in for a check up they insisted that he go on a diet. Like I said, I moniter what he eats. Have for a long time. He still gained weight though. Granted, he is not the most active child. He has an intense phobia of bees and is extremely sensitive to the sun. Therefore it is hard to force him outside or to run when he is there. I work like most moms so I can't push him all day. My husband is home with him but is a couch potato himself. So no help there. Last Wednesday at weigh in he had lost one pound. I had gotten him a new soccer ball and had been out in the evenings playing with him. Tonight is weigh in time again and I fear the result because I know that he has been less active this week. I am going to classes in the afternoon now so I get home even latter. I want to help him be healthy but am losing the battle. It doesn't help when you go to the doctor and you get a lengthy lecture and they practically accuse you of lying about the measures you are taking. My son also has other issues too that cause him to be behind in school. One can't help but fell like a failure when there are so many things that do not fit the normal and you are being told that it is your fault.
