I was so excited when our now almost 8 month old started sleeping through the night at 1.5 months old and then the 4 month regression hit and his sleep went to shit! I did NOT want to do CIO as it KILLS me to see him that way but eventually nursing to sleep just stopped working and I would be in the bedroom with him for literally hours trying to nurse him to sleep while he was extremely hyper and awake. Since he was 4 months I've had a bedtime routine so I could see if that would help to get him to fall asleep at night. It seems to have made it worse! He LOVES the bath but as soon as I take him out he starts crying because its like he knows sleep is coming and he is dreading it. My boyfriend has been putting him to sleep and we were trying CIO but it never worked.. for 1.5 months now he has been crying before he falls asleep for 20-30 mins and it is killing me but I have NO other way of getting him to go to sleep. I know he's not overtired because he naps a few times in the day and I put him to bed about 2-2.5 hours after his last nap. (As I am typing this he is crying in his crib and has been for about a half hour already and I am a nervous wreck from it!) Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do?

He only naps two times a day most days and he's a catnapper (40mins) which makes it even more difficult because he gets VERY grumpy about 2 hours after a nap so I have no idea what else to do other than put him down for another nap. He is impossible to keep happy at times. :( I am thinking you are right and the reason he needs so much sleep in the day sometimes is because he is not getting it at night.

He's 8 months old. He shouldn't be napping a few times a day. However, he may be napping a few times a day because he isn't getting the sleep he needs at night, which creates a bit of a vicious cycle. I'd try to break one of the daytime naps and establish a better daytime routine for him, as this may then roll on to help with the night sleeping.

I have absolutely no problem with nursing him to sleep. I used to do it every night and I still do it for every nap. The issue is that now it doesn't work. I literally could sit there for up to 2 hours with him nursing and not falling asleep and then if he did fall asleep he would wake right back up when I tried to move. He just kicks and pulls off and rolls around and its almost like a game to him so I can't do it anymore.

I nursed my kids to sleep every single night until they weaned... All at over a year.
