Has anyone ever been accidently injured by your child? How did your child react to see you hurt?

Saturday my normally very loving and emotional child accidently hit me in the head with a cabinet door. It was extremely painful.. I screamed out for help and to get Dad and she stood there FROZEN and then replied ... I can't go get dad I'm in my underwear...WHAT??

The first time my son hurt me (badly), he went across the room and laughed and taunted me. When I told him that it was naughty to taunt someone because they got hurt, he showed his true feelings. He freaked out for the rest of the night, not wanting me to move for fear of me getting hurt again. He gave me so many kisses and hugs!

Knee-jerk reactions are different for everybody, and when you don't know what to do, you (everyone) often do something that makes sense to you, but seems highly inappropriate to others... especially the one who got hurt.

My son can get quite boisterous and so accidently hurts me quite often (not badly just a ouch that hurt sort of thing). When he does hurt me though he gives me a kiss and a hug, as that is how he says sorry (he can't say it yet). I sliced my finger open on a piece of broken glass while my son was with me - he just looked at me with real concern (he was only just over a year old).

I would question her response, does she think it's wrong to show men her underwear? Could she be afraid of getting into trouble? Could she have been a little traumatised by seeing you hurt (and knowing she hurt you)?

Carole, yeah, I guess it's definitely our job to teach them. So this morning I had a talk with my daughter about what to do if someone (and mommy or daddy) are hurt. She smiled and said ok, mommy, then she rubbed my head and asked if it was ok. :-) ~ There's my sensitive girl!

Katherine, you're right too. It was just alarming to me because she is normally so emotional and caring of others. And any other time I'm hurt she's so attentive, but with her causing it I'm sure she just didn't know how to react. Thanks for your response.

CONSTANCE.....I'm speechles and that is hard to do with me. Oh my.... well, I'm trusting that you are much better now and his little brother too. As I stated in comments earlier, now hindsight, I realize my baby girl was scared and didn't know what to do. Although, she is usually so "grown" she's still just 5 and still learning... So I feel much better now and especially after reading yours and others stories. Thanks for your response!

Thanks Amy,... As i said to Tamara, now hindsight, I realize she's only 5 and may not have known how to react. I mean she is still learning. And it's my job to teach her. This conversation has been very cathartic. :-)

My daughter has ALWAYS started crying if she hurts me. She cries if she accidentally hurts the dog. She's very sensitive.
I think your daughter was just shocked and her knee jerk response was about her underwear.

I can't even count how many times I have been acciedently injured by my kids. I have 8 and they all play extemely rough. Probally the werst was when my 10 yr old had to get stitches in his mouth he was about 2 1/2 and he was scared. The doctor wanted to sedate him so he could repair his gum line. They put the IV in his arm and he flip his arm away and punched me in the face and broke my nose. It was painful but I know he didn't do it on purpose but on top of that I went into preterm labor with his brother. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. He felt so bad that when I came home he climbed up in my lap and wouldn't move unless I had to get up. He even slept in our bed for the next couple of monthes.

I was cute.

I frequently fall asleep while nursing my daughter. When she was 20 months we were nursing and sleeping, I guess she slipped down the nipple and you know that jerking motion you do sometimes while moving into a dream? Well she just chomped down hard and bit all the way through to the muscle.

I jerked awake yelling, and she continued to sleep, lol. Nursing was a killer for three weeks because she kept ripping it open. Sheesh.

Yes on two seperate occasions my son scratched my cornea. The first time I went to a walk in clinic which then required a visit to an optomologist to have my eye glued shut.
The second time we were wrestling and I took a finger to the eye, after two days of getting worse I went to the minute clinic to get eye antibiotics. Both times he felt really bad about it.

I get hurt accidentally all the time, And they always feel bad and do what they can to help.

I agree it could have been she was scared or maybe just in shock that she hurt you. I know a lot of times you get scared they freeze and aren't thinking clearly

Toni, thank you for your response and you're right, in fact the moment I posted it and read it back then reflected on her response... she probably was scared, I screamed pretty loud... because it hurt... it happened Saturday and there is still a little tenderness. LOL!! But yes, I've told her she's a lady now (5) and shouldn't let boys see her private parts. so I guess that's why she said she couldn't go.
