I TOTALLY! want twins - I have 8 brothers and sisters, and 2 of them are a set of twins - girls, identical. My mom always said it was easier to have twins because it was much more NATURAL to divide your attention than it was to focus on one thing all the time :) Which made sense to me. I took that outlook, when I got puppies - I got two, and it was great! They kept each other busy, they learned together and from each other, and I only had to go through "training" once :)

I love the idea of having two babies at once - sure, I guess the risk is higher, but I'm not worried. I have a baby girl now - and according to my husband's side of the family - if the pattern continues, I am destined to have 4 boys and one girl - I got my girl, so it would be nice to get 2 of the boys at once, then I can stop - hehehehe :)

I have twins, a boy and a girl, who are now grown, but it runs on my father's side. His nephew has twins and my grandmother had four sets of twins. Image that. But none of them lived.

Hi Sarah, I'm Sara and I have identical boys who turned 9 months yesterday. They are a dream! I've never know anything else, since they were my first kids at 40. But they sleep great, eat hearty, cry only when there's something to cry about, and generally are the little loves of my life. Of course it helps that I have a great husband who works an opposite schedule from me, so they're almost always with family. And I credit breastfeeding for a lot of their health and happiness too. As for running in the family, identical twins are completely random genetically. Fraternal twins run in families. Fraternals are from two eggs, so the tendency to ovulate that way is greater as you get older, and tends to run in the family. With identicals, the two babies actually started out as one person (well zygote), and as cell division occurred, they split into two at some point. If the split was really early they may end up in two placentas like mine did, or if it was later, they can share one. Twins Rock!

Twins are such a blessing. The hardest part of having twins for me was 38 weeks of twin pregnancy. I love it and yes, it requires every minute of the day and night, but I would not trade my experience for the world. ♥

I have 4 yr old twin boys, a 2 yr old daughter and am pregnant with my second set of twins. I LOVE my twins, I am very excited to be having a second set but trust me with all the excitement comes a WHOLE lot of worry. My first pregnancy was difficult, delivered at 31 weeks. This pregnancy I have already spent 3 days in the hospital and been on bedrest and that was before I was even 11 weeks along.

Aside from one sentence to the next being a complete contradiction (the whole who would wish for twins, it'd be a blessing thing), I find your comment rude. Yes, there is a SLIGHTLY higher chance for complications. My twins went overdue and I had zero complications, by the way. But seriously, why WOULDN'T someone wish for twins, just as someone should wish for a single child. It is ALL a blessing. To put a comment like this up about the potential complications, without any background is very scary for someone who's just found out they're expecting twins, etc. Are you a mom of twins yourself? Regardless, science has improved greatly and the risks of carrying multiples is lower than ever... I say, if you wish for twins, I wish you the best of luck...

My oldest daughter has twins; I was with her for the first month when they were born. They are a lot of work, but not so much more than a single baby because they are the same age; you just have to make and have 2 of everything. Big advantage - they keep each other entertained - and Mom as well!

I can't believe there isn't a post on here from any twins themselves. I am a twin and growing up is great as you always have someone there to share everything with, but I guess it is harder work from the beginning as double the amount, but once you have 2 or more children it is no different as they all needs baths etc. My mum didn't find it hard but we were her only children. If you have twins just ensure you keep them separate identities and let them be individual as so many years of experience has shown that twins often get treated as once child. So all you twin mums make sure you ask for two appointments at parents evening and double the time as generally as a rule you children will be treated as one. There are two children but so often you get joint cards and joint presents. From a twin perspective this is the most annoying thing of all!!! The lack of peoples perspectives that you are and can be different!

identical twins are one egg splitting... fraternal twins are two eggs fertilized. identical twins are a fluke, while fraternal are usually hereditary. USUALLY!

I wanted twins, and thought I was going to have them because my grandma ia a twin, but it didnt happen, and now, Im hoping I only have 1 for my second child. I guess if they werent very fussy I would love it, but my 1 fussy newborn was almost too much! If it does happen, Im sure Ill be happy though.

i have always wanted twins, since i was little. i have 3 daughters, all single births. i have a couple of friends with twins and do not envy the work involved day to day, in the first few years. one of my friends has twin boys, she has told me she would like to have another child but she is to scared that she will become pregnant with twins again to even try. her boys are only 2 so hopefuly in time things will get easier for her. her sons are 2 of the most active kids i have ever met! my other friend has twin girls, she went on to have 2 sons from 2 additional pregnancies, and really now that her girls are in school i don't think she seems any busier then me, our kids are all about the same age.

Hi Sarah! I have four kids - 2 boys, 15 & 12 and twin girls, age 11. I had them on a schedule when they were young and that helped. I was also in school full time finishing my degree and didn't work full time. My parents and sisters lived close so I had a lot of help too. It is important to have a support structure with multiples as well as a schedule as I believe it helps to maintain your sanity when your sleep is interrupted. I know that people used to ask me how I managed, but I think that you just do because you have to. Looking back, I don't ever remember a bad moment, not that there weren't challenges as there were many (I had three in diapers at the same time, bottle weaning my 12 year old and him sneaking his sister's bottles, him not wanting a big boy bed and getting into the crib with the girls, etc.) .. there are many fond memories as they grew up... but I think they are more challenges as they get older as technology changes, kids are essentially getting older faster, and keeping them educated as well as yourself. :) Twins do run on my mom's side of the family - both of my mom's parents have twins. My grandma had a set (they were born premature and didn't survive) and then on my grandpa's side, I have at least two sets of cousins. Though, I think it can happen to anyone.

I want twins soo bad :) Twin boys lol either would do but I already have a beautiful 11 month old baby girl so I would like a boy next, and hopefully their twins haha I HIGHLY doubt it, twins don't really run in my family only one set in 7 generations. Buttt I read somewhere if you eat lots and lots of squash it can increase your chances of gettin twins!

I really just want 2 kids, one boy, one girl. I thought it would be neat to have twins and get it all done with 1pregnancy but after the problems I had with labor I'm glad I had just my girl! Twins is just a result of how the cells split so I'm not sure, but I think it can happen to anyone, but I think girls in a family with a history of twins are more prone to it. I watch the Bringing Home Baby shows on TLC and a lot of times they have twins. All I can think is it would be my luck that one child would sleep and the other would wake up. lol

My OB told my that my twins were the result of two eggs being feritilized not splitting...

Your both right. Identical twins are the result of one egg splitting and fraternal twins are the result of 2 seperate eggs being feritillized.

Identical twins can happen to anyone and fraternal twins usually run in the family.

My twins were my 4th and 5th children. My others were 3, 6, and 8. It was very tiring but also very rewarding. I was always amazed at how they would keep each other entertained. I think that the first year is the hardest.

Twins usually run in families but can also occur right after you had a baby and become pregnant again fast or with older age. In families it runs through the female gene and can not be passed through males. My Dr informed us of this after we thought we were having twins with our first. My father is a twin, my husbands mother is a twin and twins run on my mothers side...so as you can see we only had 1 out of 3 for twins. We have a 2yr old son and 6 month old daughter and no twins. Howvere...my MIL went to a psychic...yeah i know weird, but the person told her that she had a grand son already, true, she would be blessed with a grand son and grand daughter in 2009 and twins would be the following...we have yet to see who will have the twins lol. My husbands brother had a son last may and we have the daughter. We have thoguht 2 times now that we were pregnant again and our daughter was onyl 3 months when the test came back positive but then it was followed by a bunch of negatives and my dr did a test adn it too was negative...my periods are screwed up so we are waiting to get in to my Dr. I vote that the twins will be given to my husbands sister becasue she is 29 and very very very underweight so i think she will need fertility drugs to get pregnant and like i said before it runs through the female gene so we'll see.
I did want twins but i'm so happy with the 2 kids i have and they are spaced great! We wanted one more child so we'll see if ti happens or if this is it for us. Either way we're happy:)

I thought that I was going to loose everything (insanity) but I guess since this is my first time being a parent, this is all I know... and it really isn't as bad as I thought it would be... now ask me that question again in about another year and yeah I just may be insane but hey, what can you do!!! I love my boys!!!

I have twin 6 year old girls!! They are my only kids so for me doin double was normal!! I think that when u have twins first it just what u know and its easier that way!! Twins are no where on either side of the family, so it is not just a family that has twins. Its called spontaneious twins!! My girls did not sleep through the night until they were 1 years old. Mainly cause if one would wake up then the other most likely would as well. It is challengin to have twins but at the same time u could handle it cause even with one baby there are challenges to overcome!! I hope I helped u with your question!!

I have 9 month old twins, with a 4 year old... it is very exhausting and tiring but I would not change it for the world. You life is turned upside down and lack of sleep is a constant. Some days I feel like a walking zombie. I love my twins and my 4 year old and have to say it was the best thing that happened in 2009. It is not easy even with a schedule but in time it will get a lot easier. I love to watch them change and grow together.
