I was told sex or a hot shower.  I picked the hot shower -- as hot as you can stand and for as long as you can.  That is what a nurse told me -- so I went home, took a HOT shower and the next day I had a baby!!!!  Worked great

If your body is ready to have the baby, natural induction methods MIGHT work.  If your baby isn't ready to come out, forget it.  Nothing you do will work except make you extremely uncomfortable.

Try googling "Natural induction methods herbs"

Unfortunately I have found that nothing really works...nature just needs to take it's course.

Quoting Mary:

hi there JENNY I am in exactly the same position, one week overdue today! However I am really suspisious that the hospital haven't bothered to get the correct due date as I am convinced I know the day I conceived being May 25th 08 which means I am not due till Feb 25th 09...The hospital however seem to be totally confused as to whether I am due between Feb 06 - Feb 16 09!! They have booked me in for a C-Section on Feb 20th which as far as I am concerned is totally jumping the gun as I don't believe I am due for another five days after the C-Section date. Anyway I too am trying to induce the labour naturally and so have created the following natural route: yesterday I went to a very expensive reflexologist as I heard this was good, they gave me a labour stimulating session and charged me but as yet nothing... I have purchased also this RASBERRY LEAF herb which apparantly is a very old tried and tested herbal tea like thing which is supposed to help and today I will be drinking it and large ammounts... what with it being Valentines weekend this weekend I will then be (possibly spiking my husband with viagra) and hopefully having a LOT OF SEX ( which was actually reccomended to me by my consultant surgeon at the hospital ) . Then on Monday I will go for a walk... Best wishes

Are you having a c-section because of a previous c-section or because you are overdue.  My friend and I were due on the same day Oct 19.  The idiot doctor she went to changed her due date at 20 weeks because of an u/s (stupid) so they said she was due oct1.  Well she refused to be induced and would only go into labor naturally.  She went to have her fluids checked and everything was fine.  Her idiot dr then said that the baby looked to be over 10 lbs.  Well guess what she went into labor on Oct 18 (the day I had my son) and had him Oct 19 (on her origonal due date) 7 lbs 1 oz.

time. Walking doesn't work unless you are already in labor. The best way to induce is an orgasm! It causes your uterus to contract and might get labor started. Good luck!

I mowed about an acre and a half on the ride on mower the day before I gave birth to my first daughter.  I didn't do it to bring labour on I just wanted to be outside that day.  Funny thing is she is 4 now and if she goes on it with her dad she quite often falls asleep, very strange considering its so loud even with earmuffs on.  It must be the constant vibration and noise.  She was born on her due day also.  My second baby girl was born 26 days premi so no tips on that one.

At my last appt before I gave birth my Dr told me "I am going to strip your membranes so go home and have sex!!" prostaglandins are protein enzymes that soften your cervix it  will cause dilation to start and begin the labor process. Semen is full of the very same chemical and has been proven to kick-start labor.

Sex was the Last thing on my mind..but after waiting and waiting when I got to 1 day past my due date hubby took one for the team and within four hours my water broke and I was in full blown Labor. I gave birth 14 hours later ;)

My doctor told me to go home and have sex if I wanted to have my baby within the next 24 hours.  She said that there is something in the sperm that makes you go into labor.  I took her advise, as uncomfortable as it was, and I was in labor within 5 hours.

Castor oil! I have 5 kids all were induced except the last one, because i couldn't handle the thought of being induced and laboring on pitocin all day so i drank  castor oil(yuk) almost the whole bottle and voila 3 hrs labor we were at the hospital 6 cm .

Go get a massage! Most Massage Therapists will be reluctant to induce through massage because if anything goes wrong they dont want to get sued. But they definitly know how to induce labor. Just make it clear that you know the risks that come with labor and maybe sign a paper saying you know this ahead of time and the therapist is not liable.

Yes, there are pressure points in your wrist and ankles. You have to press hard on the inside of your ankle or wrist. Also, try taking Evening Primrose.

There are nerve receptors deep within your lower back that can stimulate labour... My husband gave me a very deep lower back massage (to the point of hurting a little - not a lot, just a bit) and I went into labour 7 hours later.

My doctor always told me to have sex.  Nothing too rough and extreme but just normal good sex stimulates your body for labor/delivery.

Sex and a good chiropractor to adjust your hips.  I had two quick and easy labor and deliveries, both without meds.

My grama is a deep muscle therapist, so I had her do the pressure points in my feet and legs. By the time she was done the massage, she could already tell that I was in labour(I was at the hospital in 5 hours in full labour!) But, I did have a very traumatic birth, so I would definitely recommend that you let nature take its course.

OMG...I did everything that has already been mentioned to induce the labour with my daughter.  Altough I was only 2 days late, I could not wait for her to pop out.  I tried walking, lunges, stretching, spicy food (that gave killer acid reflux), and even sex.  I was short of going for a bike ride.  My OB/GYN induced me by massaging the cervix...it hurt like hell! But in the end, my Rachel came out when she wanted to!

Ha!! I know how you feel!! I tried a lot to make myself go into labour (except sex, partner was afraid to do it at that point...lol) I was going on 3 weeks overdue from my original due date. Unfortunately I never did go into labour and had to be induced at the hospital. I walked for miles and it did not put me into labour.

why do you want to induce? sometimes it can be dangerous to flirt with nature. the baby will come when he's good and ready to, and if not and it becomes too long overdue, then your doctor or midwife should assess induction. it's up to you to try induction, but please take care of the babe! he's depending on you:)

my son was 4 days past due and I was miserable. I had tried everything from sex to walking to raspberry tea and then finally my grandmother told me to try castor oil. I did it was nasty but it worked. 2 hours after taking it I was in labor at the hospital with full contractions. Good luck

A labor nurse once told a friend of mine that there is a spot between your toes that if you press really really hard it can cause contractions. Not sure what toes but you might want to research reflexology to find out.

Try a tablespoon of casteroil before you go to bed.  I think you can get it from a chemist.

You will usually be advised against it, but if you are pretty much to term it works.  My daughter used it and it worked for her.

You can try raspberry leaf tea but you have to be over 38 wks pregnant. It relaxs the cervix. It actually says on the box not to drink it in the early stages of pregnancy. you can get it at most health food places. Ask someone in the shop to help you to ensure you get the right one. Also try long walk but not on your own just in case. Semen contains a chemical that also relaxs the cervix.

[deleted account]

Sex is actually a way because the semen contains the same hormone that they put on your cervix to induce you! Usually the last thing you want to do whey you are ready to have a baby though!

In my experience unless baby is ready nothing will work ( unless it's medical intervention of course!)......If baby is ready, everyone elses tips are great, and i would also try home made curry (quite spicy!) and bouncing on a birthing ball, this helps baby get into a good position pressing on your cervix which in turn releases hormones that send you into labour (or so they say!)...It worked for me, I spent the day sat on my ball, had a curry for tea, had a nice bath and went to bed, I woke up the following morning to my waters breaking!!!! ...Good Luck! x
