My son will be 10 mos old this month and I am still breastfeeding. I had a tubaligation shortly after he was born... I had my first period since his birth in October and it was VERY heavy ... I am now having another and it is the same. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the tubaligation?

no, its just your body repairing itself and getting itself back to normal.

I had my tubal almost 4 years ago, after my last child was born. My periods did get heavier after that, and just to warn you, I got pregnant two months ago. I went to the doctor on a Saturday for the pregnancy test; it was positive. Because of the tubal, I knew there was a higher risk of a tubal pregnancy, so on Monday I went to the OB/GYN for an ultrasound. He did the u/s and said it was a tubal pregnancy, so I had surgery Tuesday morning. Turns out, it wasn't a tubal pregnancy, it was a cyst on my ovary he was seeing on the u/s; I actually had a miscarriage. On the ultrasound he had seen something in my uterus but he thought it was just blood because I hadn't had my period. So that left me to wonder if the surgery caused the miscarriage, or if it would have happened regardless. I don't tell you all this to scare you, only to let you know that even having your tubes tied is not 100% guaranteed; if I had it to do over, I would have pushed my husband harder to get himself "fixed" instead (the rates of failure are much, much lower for men). Good luck to you, I hope everything gets back to normal for you soon, but for me it never really did.

I had my tubes Cut,tied& burned at the same time I had my C-section with my son 8 years ago. I can honestly say that was the longest and heaviest I ministration after birth. My first 2 was about 4-6 days my 3 red was only 4 days my last I had ministration for about 10 weeks. The first 6 was up and down with how heavy. I also had some hemarriage problems in the first 3 weeks. Every since then my periods have been twice as heavy and the cramps have been very strong. Others I have talked to have told me the same thing as far as there periods being heavy and more cramps too. So I think its normal and we just are not informed before we get our tubes tied.

Thank you ladies .... so nice to hear that others have had the same thing occur. I have done a lot of reading about this now (of course after the fact). It is a common complaint among women who have had this procedure done. I really appreciate everyones input. Thank you.

Most likely because it happened to me,but only for the first month, The second month was still a little heavy but after that everything was normal. If you see that it continues, you should go back to your doctor. Good luck!

I had my done 10 years ago. Nothing changed for me. My periods were a little odd at firdt but my OB said it was because I had been on depo for so long and with in a month of going of the shot I got pregnant. So it all depends on your history before your tubal. I have to admit for me it was worth the risks. The only thing I can tell you is to be 100% it's what you really want, since it is permanent. For me health wise no problems, the fact my husband left me and I am now remarried. Luckilly for me my new husband doesn't want any more kids. It is something to think about thought, Thier are some other alternatives if you are not 100% sure.

Having just a turbal is not related to the amount you will produce on your period. The tubal is just cutting, burning or clamping of the fallopian tubes to prevent the egg from getting fertilized and becoming pregnant. If you have your ovaries also removed that can mess with the hormones.

I had one 18 years ago, after you have the procedure you will have to either expell gas or maybe have a bowel movement. Because the procedure go thru your naval you may have a little pouch under your naval, because your tubes have to be inflated to be seen. You will have extremly heavt menstral cycles after that.

I had a tubal in 2006, and the same thing happened to me. It took about 4 months after my first period for my periods not to be so heavy. They are not how they used to be before I had the tubal, they now last longer and are heavier than before but not as heavy as my first period after the tubal.

My doc told me it is a normal period...since there is no more birth control. I said I nbever remembered this when I was younger! Clots too! Had a sonogram to make sure everything was ok and it was. But check with your doc.

I had a tubal in 2007 and I too had very heavy periods and from time to time I still do I definitely know the tubal had something to do with it because it didn't start getting heavy until then. It hasn't caused any major issues i just need extra protection around that time of the month.

I had a tubiligation when my daughter was 1 year old (22 Years ago) and do not remenber problems with my period . I heard comments of weight gain due to the surgery , I discussed my concern with my obgyn and I was told not to worry about that, that the only people who had gain weight after was due to lack of exercise or slow metabolism. Well, After the surgery I gained 20 pounds while I was dieting and exercising, after losing some of the weight, it been very difficult to keep it down.

I had a tubal right after my daughter was born almost 4yrs ago. I've never had any problems. The first period after she was born was pretty heavy but since then everything has been normal. I would call your doctor and ask if that could be caused by the tubal?

[deleted account]

I had this for the usual reasons and had heavy and light periods for years.I got endrometrious and needed a full hysetrectomy. I was told by my doctor that this has also been linked to other problems with the reproduction organs. Speak to your doctor if you normanly don't suffer heavy periods.

I had a tubal done back in Sept.2009 and that was during my crash emergency C-Section. I bled for the whole 6 weeks but havemt had anything since and it will be one year tomorrow since I had my last period too.My Mom had the same issue after her c-section and tubal years ago and had irregular periods for a YEAR..ugh. These Dr.'s need to better inform all women what will or can do after a tubal. Alot can happen..early menopause. No periods or tubal pregnancies. Extreme hormone imbalance and it goes on..
