Has anyone had an abnormal quad screening & still had a healthy child?

I had an abnormal quad screening and now have to see a geneticist and have a 2nd degree ultrasound. Then they want me to have a amniocentesis (which I don't think I'm going to have). So I want to know has anyone had this happen and went on to have a perfectly healthy child?

Everybody I know who had a positive screening had a perfeclty normal child. Thats why I opted out of the test. I didnt want to go through the stress of a false positive.

Sarah, that is the statistic I am familiar with as well. Ridiculously high!
I was supposed to have downs, but I don't.
Jennifer, they sent me for a level two US after seeing some markers on the original US, and had me re do the quad, and I can't tell you the results yet because I'm due in a few weeks, but I too refused an amnio, because it is so risky and I would not abort either. Prayers for you and your little kiddo!

The quad screening has an extremely high rate of false positives (I've seen stats as high as 80% of positives are a false positive). Usually when they do come back positive they will recommend and amnio because even the "true" positives don't necessarily guarantee a problem with your baby - an amnio can rule it out. The whole point is basically to give you the option to choose to abort IF the amnio says the baby does have something. For this reason, we opted to not have the screening with my pregnancies because we knew that I likely wouldn't have the amnio, and even if it did come back positive, that we wouldn't abort. I imagine how scary this is for you right now, but please feel confident that your odds of the baby actually having a genetic condition (barring a strong family history of one) are very slim. Whatever you decide, I wish you luck and will pray for a happy outcome for you.

Thank you Sarah I appreciate it. I am not getting an amnio since I know no matter what I wouldn't abort. I do thank you for the prayers.
