hi i have a 6 year old boy and im pretty sure he has aspergers or is on the spectrum somewhere .

he has trouble socialising

but can build a 187 piece lego transformer by himself in a few hours

he hates certain clothes , i bought him a harry potter lego t shirt and he went mad saying he hated harry potter and promptly threw it in the bin!

same with shoes , would rather wear his old holey ones than a new pair

he says what he feels to complete strangers , he told an old lady to stop staring at him when i said thats rude he looked at me and said BUT SHE WAS MUM , same with a child in the park , he told him to move , when i ask why he says he was in my way mum .

he has been in trouble at school for being aggressive , the school did refer him , but it was useless they watched him for about 45 minutes and nothing really came of it , ive also been to my doctors but he looked at me like i was mad , i dont know what to do next where do people go to get help , from a frustrated mum , kirstie

Sorry Kirstie, I assumed you were American (as most are on these Circle of Moms forums!). I'm British too.

Like I said, get the appropriate tests done and then, hopefully, you will know for sure, one way or another.

hi Angela , with respect im in no way trying to label my son , i live in the uk and agree there are a lot of people who are concerned thier children have autism , but trust me i have been wrestling with this since my son was small , hence he is six now so i have not rushed into getting him diagnosed , until you can walk in someones shoes that is going through this , you have no idea what its like , i have an older daughter that i have no concerns about .

when i get him seen , if they say there is nothing wrong with him i will accept that but call it mothers instinct or whatever you like i know something is wrong , it wont change him as a person , i would never label my child and am slightly offended at your response :/

I'm a bit concerned with the (usually American) tradition of wanting to put a label on everyone. On Circle of Moms alone, I'm always reading about the aspergers syndrome based on amateur diagnoses and hunches. Bipolar disorder is another popular label that people seem keen to put on people.

I would have the appropriate tests done - but mainly to set your mind at rest.

I no ur frustration with this,I am and have always been certain my 8yr old is on the spectrum sum where it's just so difficult to get a diagnosis thease days with so many disorders to choose from, only advice I can give is if all ur mothering instinct tell you there's sum thing then u should persist.....good luck x
