I need advice asap! I have a child in college and one in 9th grade. My husband says he got this dog for the girls. They don't want the dog and I end up walking her EVERY FREAKIN MORNING! She goes to the bathroom in the house and makes licking sounds for hours at night. My husband rubs her and talks to her all the time and doesn't even know how the girls are doing in school. He comes in from work and wants to know if the dog has eaten today but yet we don't sleep together. I need help before I do something horrible. i don't like animals much at all. I like people. Also he has past childhood issues that have just come out and I think he likes animals more than people. Good Dad when the girls were little by the way.

It sounds as though, from the recently revealed childhood issues, your husband is going through a very hard time. This means your whole family is troubled because if one member is having a hard time, everyone knows even if it isn't discussed. I am so sorry you and your family are suffering right now. I would love to give you advice that would solve this immediately but there is no easy answer. I suggest family counseling and/or counseling for your hubby. He may like animals more than people right now because animals don't have expectations of him to succeed in life. Animals don't ask questions and are always happy to see you. It sounds like it is just easier for him to relate to the dog right now but that doesn't mean it will always be like this. Talk this out if you can and try to have him talk to a professional. Kudos to you for reaching out too! It's not the dog's fault his owner isn't interacting with the family as he should. As for the dog being for the kids... He probably thought they would benefit from a loving pet as well. A pet should have been a family decision but since you are stuck with him, start training him. There are free videos online for you to learn how or you can attend classes at your local pet store. I sure help I was helpful a little.
