You lost contact with your folks, probably due to issues on both sides. If you have given your son the tools to be a successful adult, you ahve to let him DO that.

You can't control if he'll stay in contact with you, but you can always call, text, etc him.

My eldest is 22 this year, on his own since 19, and still stops by my house every 2-3 days to say hi.

I'm a little confused as to why him going to long island is an issue. Is he going to live? Or is he going for the day? Or is he going for a vacation?

Either way, he is 20 and an adult. You'll never stop worrying, but you still have to let go.

You need to trust that you have given him all the tools to make the right decisions. Yes we miss them but that's our job as a parent, to raise them into adults and let them go. They need to live their own life.
