Have any of your children ever had worms (pinworms/tapewormsetc...)? I was just wondering if it can cause behavioral problems? What is the best treatment, the prescription medicine or the OTC medicine?

Most children who live i n the southern part of the United States do get pin worms. Many are never treated for the worms. They frequently do not sleep well nat night due to itching and this lack of sleep could be the reason for some school and related behavioral problems.

Well, Robert, giggle all the way home. Pinworms exist in unhygenic situations, and if you are aware of that, you teach your kids hygiene. Which you should be doing anyway.

And since my kids are grown, I'll continue to LMFAO, because the key to healthy kids is attention to hygiene, and health questions, and living an essentially healthy lifestyle. No, that doesn't mean no dirt and no friends, it means figure out how to teach your kids to wash their hands after they scratch their ass.

Well all the kids have got on the bus and I love this part of the day when I can review tomorrow's lesson. I have been laughing at the post that all gets get worms and the parent who was LHAO. She might not think it so funny if she took her kids to the nurse and had the little test run. One of the real bad places that pin worms are passed is when kids are put in the child seat on a shopping cart.

"All children get worms" LMAO...No, not ALL children get worms, it depends on environment.

Thats like saying "all children get chicken pox" or "all children are allergic to veggies".

And, Helen, I'd appreciate some backup for your statement of "99% of people have worms at some point"

There are some serious inaccuracies in those statements, as I've never known one person that's had worms. Certainly no one in my family has, and we're a pretty damn large family...

ETA: a simple internet search will tell you that pinworms are not connected with behavioural disorders, either.

99% of people have had worms at some stage of their lifes but just didn't realise it.Here in france it is pretty standard to give all children of school age a worming treatment twice a year to prevent worms

Um.....I think to say that all kids get worms at some stage is wrong. I never had worms and neither did my sister. None of her four kids have ever had worms and none of my other nieces or nephews have had them. In fact, NO ONE in my family has ever had worms.

It should not cause behavior problems.  We used the OTC and it worked.  You treat the whole family and remind your children not to accept food from friends hands and to wash theirs frequently. especially after using bathroom and before eating.

You get these from eggs that are microscopics after someone has touched their butt.  Tehy cause itching.  they will come out at night when the kids are sleeping.

I don't know about the behavioral problems, but I do know that pinworms, etc. are very easily passed on to others. There are no OTC that I know of that really cures them. You need to take the child to the doctor and have them tested. They can give you medication that will expell the worms. The sooner the better as the parasites can cause alot of problems and spread very fast.

Hi Sarah, all kids get worms at some stage. There are alot of worming treatments available, i find the best ones are over the counter medications. You can get the treatment in chocolate form so it's easy for the kids to swallow. Normally i worm my kids every 6 months with Combantrim. As far as behavioral problems go i don't have any i can put down to coming from worms. In general worms normally cause them to have itchy bums all the time, so make sure they get into the habit of washing there hands regularly after scratching. I hope this helps.
