Have you any tips to prevent the struggle getting my 13 year old off his computer for bed.

Its a long drawn out affair every night with him convinced that hes spent too long doing homework and not enough time playing on the computer. The reality is the opposite is true. unfortunately his friends are still on live and i cant understand why their parents let them stay on so late, it does make me appear mean.

Yep, remove access to the internet altogether. Sorry, but if it is becoming a habitual argument, then I'd cut it off altogether. My kids don't have the WiFi password in my house. I have to put it in for them, and I can just as easily take it away. It isn't even up for discussion.

Turn off the Internet, don't give him the pass word the following evening, remember if is your house and as the parent you get to make decisions for him, whether he likes it or not.. My son tried a similar game with me after I told him I pay the bill I get to change the password daily if I so choose. He thought my way was ok after all

Take the computer away until he learns to respect the boundaries. Struggle over. ;)

Being mom you can take that computer away from him and set him a time frame to use it. Longer if he has homework. As the first poster said, place it in the main room of the house where you can see what's going on. Do not back down. If he yells that his friends get to do it remind him he is not his friends and you are not their parents and you have rules to follow.

It doesn't matter what other kids are doing. Make sure the computer is in a common area, like the living room, or dining room, and NOT in his bedroom. Then set a daily time limit on how long he gets to use it, and stick with it. No negotiations. If he argues, he loses time for the next day, or loses it all together. If he refuses to get off of it, unplug the fucker, and don't let him use it for a day or 2.
