Have you ever heard of a child having 2 extra teeth?

My cousin took his son to the dentist for the first time a few days ago (he is 4) They did X-rays and he has 2 extra teeth on the top right in the front and they are pointy like dog teeth or shark teeth or something with very pointy teeth.. They are under the gums behind his baby teeth but on the X-ray they are right in the front where his regular teeth should be and the regular ones are all pushed to the side. Have you all ever heard or seen anything like that before?

Perfectly normal. My daugther is missing 2 adult teeth, does your cousin want to share?

I am a dental Hygienist and have seen this many times. You usually don't have to do anything about it unless the extras intrude on the other viable teeth. Sometimes if the child needs ortho they may remove them if in the way but usually they just move the other teeth into position and don't worry with the extras. No biggie so tell them not to worry. It would be worse to be missing teeth than have too many!

Well, I've see such things in the movies. Is the kid okay with direct sunlight?

Really though, I've heard of folks born with all their teeth, folks that got three sets ... so the odd thing happens now and again
