The baby winges because it's just hot outside. What's wrong with giving the baby additional diluted camomile/fennel teas or water. It quenches their thirst.

What's wrong with it is that you could potentially make baby ill or possibly kill baby. Water toxicity is a big deal. Infants get plenty of hydration through breast milk or formula. You can use cool sponge baths to take the edge off, but don't give water or tea in place of a feeding.

All a child under 6 months needs is breast milk or infant approved formula. If child is hot/thirsty... additional nursing quenches the thirst w/out putting baby at risk for water intoxication which can be fatal. Sure... you can give baby water if you really, really want to and no one can stop you... but when it is not necessary and could potentially kill a child? No thanks... I'd never risk it.

Because the baby doesn't NEED any. And because even a small amount of water can cause water toxicity. Your breastmilk contains 80% water. Just keep the baby hydrated by breastfeeding.
