I am currently breastfeeding my 6 month old baby boy but I am concerned that I am losing too much weight. My current weight was 125 lbs now I'm 104 what can I do to gain weight? I've tried the gym to help more muscle grow but it's not working. Is there = any safe protein I could use? Any recommendations?

I just joined here only to answer to this question. Please, take good care of yourself!

This is a very sensitive subject to me. All my adult life my weight was between 112-114 lbs, always wanted to gain some more. I'm still breastfeeding for about a year now, thinking of quitting lately, my current weight is only 108. I often feel weak, as you must have experienced too.

Being this the situation two months ago I met a girl I once knew a little, haven't met her for about 10 years, she was with her husband and 5 young children, the last one only 50days old AND she was sooo skinny that made me think of her all day - every day...

I feel so sorry I did not even actually talk to her, advice her husband, and mostly for not helping her practically. She past away one month ago. I heard the doctors said her heart just stopped.
So eat well! Every time you breastfeed have one of these drinks Amy mentions.

I wish you have help. Ask for help if you need.

I too started to loose weight after breastfeeding, and I was glad to gain the little baby weight but after 5 months I was back down to 109. I stopped breastfeeding around 5 months. My son is 10 months now & I'm currently 113 and trying to gain more. I exercise to build muscle and try to eat as many times as baby. I know dinking milk and earring lots of potatoes may aid in weight gain. Good luck.

You need to up your calories, find nutrient dense foods; nuts, avocado, meat, anything you enjoy and eat. You are not only losing weight but likely bone density and muscle mass. Talk to you doctor and a dietitian

I had the same problem with my firstborn. I was scared, too. I asked a weight-lifter how to gain weight, and he told me to add protein powder to my diet. I think I used a soy-based supplement, but whey protein is usually available as well. Either one would be safe as long as you aren't allergic to it. I was already using a meal replacement drink as a food supplement in addition to my regular breakfast, so I added the protein to that. It took several months for my weight to stabilize and I had to continue using the protein powder until I was done lactating. I'm sure your doctor told you to continue with your pre-natal vitamins. They really are essential to your health, and you may need even more B-complex and Iron, but you should check with your doctor first. Hang in there and keep nursing as long as you can. You won't regret it. I'm praying for you.:)

Eat every time the baby eats. Things like avocado provide good fats.
