I'd actually be questioning WHY she is begging you to let her stay home alone for a day.
I let my son stay home alone at that age, but I checked in with him regularly, and he is honestly just a good kid - rarely puts a foot wrong. He had some pretty basic rules about staying home alone, and he stuck to them. I didn't just start with a full day though.

Where do you live? Different states/countries have different rules for the legal minimum age at which a child may be left alone without you potentially being charged with child endangerment and/or abandonment. This can range from 12 years to 15 years, so I'd read up on that legislation for where you live before you consider anything else.
If your teen meets the legal minimum age, then it's up to you to decide, based on what you know of her maturity and whether or not she can be trusted, but I certainly wouldn't start off with a whole day off the bat. That kind of trust has to be earned with shorter sessions first.
You also would need to lay some rules down (no friends over, no partying, etc etc) and make it very clear what would happen if these rules were broken.
