We have a son who we have been trying to train to poop on the potty for 3 years on and off. He is fully functional with urinating on the toilet, but will only poop in a pull up. We wrote a social story, hired behaviorists, have bribed him with candy, given him food and water and Milk of Magnesia to make him go....Threw away the pull ups on Tuesday - he has not gone since Tuesday night and he is just so resistant. he keeps asking to go to Walmart to buy pull ups. We explain that there will be no more pull ups....there are picture stories everywhere...I even sign my version of Let It Go...let the poop go in the potty....trying to make it fun, but I am desparate. Any ideas, advice????

Actually he only gets a pull up out to poop - we have tried everything for years, including cutting a hole in the pull ups. He has no problem sitting on the pot to pee and sitting on the pot to poop, just will not let it go. Last night I finally got him to put on a pull up with a big hole, much of the poop went into the toilet, he was mad, but it relieved him and now we will use this as an interim step. I consider it a victory...took me a year to get him to stay in the bathroom to poop, took me another year to get him to sit on the pot with the pull up, hopefully it will not take another year for me to get rid of the pull up all together.

Sounds like he associates poop and a pull ups. He is 15 so you have had him in diapers for years , he is uncomfortable sitting on the pot and pooping. Just think about it! He will eventually go ...but where?
