The mirena doesn't stop periods for everyone. With all the birth control I happen to be the 10-20% that bleeds continuously, that was my main reason for not getting it.
I've recently had an ablation done and am still getting my period. It's not as heavy or lasting as long (used to be 2 weeks and super heavy and painful) but I'm still getting it. About 90% of women it will stop their periods for about 5 years! I just love being in the minority.

The mirena is a form of birth control you either love it or hate it, there is no in between and you don't know till you have it which it's going to be. I happen to love it but I know not everyone does.

All I can suggest is do your research. After doing research myself on it there was no way I was getting it. You may just have to use condoms.
