Please no bashing. I'm already freaking out to no end. I had my first child 14 months ago and she was 100% planned. I knew exactly when I was ovulating and we conceived within a month. I am still breastfeeding and pumping to keep my supply up and have had 3 periods in the last 14 months, very irregular and no clue if I was even ovulating! We planned our first getaway alone two weeks ago. A 5 day cruise around the carribean. We were getting drunk everyday and having a great time. I have had no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever and since I've put on about 30 pounds and am still flabby from my first I am not even showing! When we got back from the cruise I started having fainting spells, which at first I thought was due to the drinking and being on the cruise. Then I thought 'We'll maybe I got pregnant on the cruise? Let me take a pregnancy test." It was positive. I made an emergency appointment with my OB and come to find out I'm about 15 weeks pregnant! So I was getting sloshed at about week 13 or 14! The fetal heartbeat was strong and the ultrasound revealed nothing abnormal regarding the nuchal cord. I go in at the end of the month for the 20 week anatomy scan and I am petrified. I don't know whether to have an abortion or deal with it. I keep praying every night to please give me whatever pain but please not the baby. I am in total shock, fear, overwhelmed, depressed, stressed, you name it!First of all please no bashing. I'm already freaking out to no end. My husband is very positive but I am more realistic. I have read SO much and every story is about women who drank very early on, not in the second trimester! I feel like a horrible terrible human being. If anyone knows or has a similar story please share it with me. I really don't know what to do. My husband is very positive but I am more realistic. I have read SO much and every story is about women who drank very early on, not in the second trimester! I know FAS is real and that the spectrum is quite large. Even if there are no visible symptoms at birth there can be mental ones later in life. I could not live with myself should I have been the cause of an innocent persons struggles in life and feel like a horrible terrible human being.

My cousin's wife did not know she was pregnant until she was 4 months along... she drank a LOT several times before that... and even smoked through her entire pregnancy. Her son is a healthy, thriving 22 year old man now. No medical issues from during the pregnancy w/ him.

Is it possible that your baby will have problems? Yes, of course. Is it a guarantee? Absolutely not.

Relax... and if your baby IS born w/ problems or develops them later on in life... research them and help your child to the best of your ability. There are no guarantees in life. Even if you do everything right in pregnancy you can have a child born w/ issues or a child that develops issues later in life....

Don't forget your folic acid. Never take more than the max dose as can be toxic, for all vitamins and supplements.

I had regular periods and no they were not light, it's a family trait, until I was 3 months with my oldest, 4 months with my middle son and 6 months with my youngest. with the two younger boys I didn't look preggers till I was six and seven months along and then, BOY HOWDY! Because it was the 70's and I was in preterm labor I had to be given the treatment to stop the labor which at the time was mass amounts of alcohol I.V. They told my husband and parents that there was no way possible I could consume that amount of alcohol and survive but it had to be or the baby would be lost. He is now 37 years old, married to a beautiful woman and has a beautiful 13 year old daughter and even though he has had some problems which we aren't sure are related to that hard beginning I wouldn't trade him in on any other model for all the world. There is also something to be said for siblings close in age. and Three boys in four years is hard to handle some days but wonderful most days. Believe me I got my share of calender watchers for the first one then the "Don't you think you have enough?" for the next to the "You mean you haven't figured out what causes that yet?!" for the next one. Just smile and say "I'm sorry, you apparently thought I was asking YOU to carry this one for me but I wasn't." It will be alright however it turns out, you are in my prayers.

Thank you so much Shellie. That sounds like a crazy trip! I read they used to use alcohol to stop labor but I didnt know it was not that long ago! Please keep me in your prayers. I will update on the 20 week scan in a couple of weeks too, which has me so nervous! I'm loading up on all my prenatals and extra zinc, magnesium and choline.
