I have a 4.5 year old son who will NOT poop on the toilet. He has complete control over his ability to decide when to go, however, he asks for a pull-up instead of using the toilet. We have tried everything: bribes, threats, taking away toys/games he loves, and more. We have also tried laxatives, withholding the pull-up, special toilet seats, and more. All of our attempts have been under the advice of doctors and therapists as he has a mild Autism diagnosis and has some major sensory issues. Being that he is approaching 4.5 years, we are at a loss and no one has any other ideas. Our OT said he's never seen such a case in his 30 years of working with children. My son said he "doesn't know how" to go on the toilet, but it takes him only seconds to go in the pull-up. He will sit for a long time on the toilet and still not go; if we force the issue, he will hold it in for up to a week at a time (yes...a WEEK!). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
