I recently got married and have been in my step son's life since he was 7 months old (for the last two years) and my husband's mother is adament that she keeps him during the day while my husband works regardless if I am available or not. What do I do to spend more time bonding with my step son? There's a big difference in the way a child acts with the parent he/she is used to and with the other parent. With all of this time I have been involved, there is no reason why he should not be used to me being with him alone....

You need to sit down with your husband and tell him you want to be the one caring for the child when you are available and though you appreciate his moms help you want more time to bond with your step son. Make a joint decision and then your husband can just tell his mother you are watching the little guy.
