My son is in 6th grade and is unable to read. He was diagnosed at 3 with autism and PDD. He was non-verbal until 4 1/2 and toilet trained after age 5. He has come a long way and is now considered very high functioning but is unable to read. He is a visual learner and can memorize things read to him, but when he needs to read words and make them form sentences he is lost. We(sped teachers and me) have been using the recommended methods, usually flash cards and drills, to no avail. He has perfect handwriting but he is able to do that from looking at words and copying them. I don't know what to do to help him. Any advice?
