Any suggestions welcomed! My 4 yr ok'd insists on sitting on the toilet rim, even in public restrooms! When we've put toilet paper down or seat covers, he takes it off. My husband normally takes him to the restroom in public, which might be worse, but I get so stressed with him sitting on rim that I feel like it might be better if I don't see it. my husband will wipe toilet rim and clean him up as best he could, and we'll bathe him when we get home but it really worries me knowing how dirty toilet rims are, especially in the men's bathroom. Thanks for any suggestions!

Germs are good how is he supposed to build up an immunity to germs if you disinfect everything? Yeah it is gross to think about and wiping off the toilet seats is probably the best thing to do but I wouldn't worry too much about germs...try teaching him to stand and pee that will solve half of it

Brandy, in my area, nearly every store has disinfectant wipes available at the cart area to wipe the cart handle. Actually probably just as important for you as you touch the cart, the various items, then your money and things in your purse. Germs are everywhere, and the best way to avoid getting sick is to wash your hands and use a hand sanitizer regularly.

obviously she has an issue with germs which is fine but i think as long as your husband is wiping off the seat then you shouldnt have anything to worry about. i mean its not like the germs are going to go from the toilet seat to his but then to his mouth. i would understasnd if he was touching it with his hands or something but hes not going to get sick if he gets a little germs on his bottom. my biggest thing was when my son was about months old and wanted to chew on everything i couldnt even put him in a grocerie basket cause i didny want him getting the germs from peoples hands in his mouth. plus it was durring flu season so i was like oh crap time to buy one of the basket covers lol.

Well I have interesting info for you....
My own son did a science fair project on the bacterial growth on cell phones. He chose a random selection, asked to swab their phones and then ran the cultures in petri dishes on Agar medium. He measured the number of colonies and the rate at which they increased. As a part of this experiment he also cultured; a public drinking fountain, the buttons of a vending machine and you guessed it; three separate public toilet seats. Final results? Our cell phones have loads more germs on them then all of the other tested areas; by far! If your hubby is wiping the seat before the child sits, or even if he doesn't- stop freaking out about it!

Do you just mean he sits on the toilet normally? Or do you mean he sits on the edge and pee goes everywhere? If he sits normally... I see no issue whatsoever.

Ah... I see. Yeah, that's pretty gross and seems like it would be rather uncomfortable and awkward. Maybe keep telling him that everyone that sits, sits on the seat. If he won't sit on the seat... wiping the rim and then washing his hands afterwards should be fine. Weird... but kids are weird.

No, he lifts the toilet seat and sits on the rim, putting his hands on the rim to hold himself up. He still stands to pee but not sure how to get him to put down lid to then poop.

Thank you. I might not have such a big issue with it if it was just his butt, but he's also holding himself up on the rim with both hands. Ugh!

Thank you Jessica! He already stands to pee but it always seems that an emergent urge to poop come see on when we're in public. I will deftly try and relax. 😀
