My 5 month old son will not sleep at night! He still wakes every 2 to 3 hours. He was nursed exclusively for the first 3 months and is now on Similac Alimentum formula. He will drink no more than 4 to 4.5 ounces. He weighs 17.5 pounds. Last night he woke every hour and a half and drank anywhere from 1 to 4 ounces. What is wrong? What can I do? I'm ready to pull my hair out!

Most likely, nothing is wrong. He's just a normal baby... possibly going through a growth spurt or teething. If you think it might be teething you can try giving him some Tylenol or teething tablets to see if that helps his sleep. Otherwise... feed him. He will sleep in longer spurts when his body and mind are ready for him to do so.

Thanks ladies for advice. All if it... I hope things get better soon. I don't mind tending to the needs of my son it's just that sleep derprivation is affecting me now! He may very be in a growth spurt currently but my LO has never slept more than 2-3 hours.

That's okay. My daughter did the same thing. He might be in the middle of a growth spurt. I know when it happened to her, she'd nurse almost every hour at night. It was exhausting but eventually passed.

I would never let a hungry baby cry. They are crying for a reason; it is our job as parents to respond to the need, not ignore it.
