Help! My baby doesn't like baby food!

I have raised 9 children. I would feed them the required cereals that babies start out on. The rest of the food was fresh food that was prepared for the family. I would put the food in the blender, e.g. carrots. I would put what carrots were left after blending them, in ice cube trays, put them in a double plastic bagsand freeze. The carrots would be ready for the baby if we were eating something they could not eat, like pizza, or I would give it to the baby at snack time or get one ready if we were eating late and the baby couldn't wait. Frozen peas, is another good one to do that with. I never bought canned vegetables because of the salt. For desserts, I would buy babyfood that I couldn't make at home. But I would buy canned peaches and pears for example, that were in their own juices. I would blend the whole can and again, put them in ice cube trays...
If you need to add meat, pick out the meat you prepared and blend it with the vegetables. Sometimes I would put carrots, potatoes and meat together. I would use the potato water as a thinning agent, carrot water from cooking the carrots, (sometimes freezing those juices in case I didn't have a thinning agent),etc.
Don't put a lot of food on the spoon at first, just enough to taste and let the baby just taste it, even if it is just on the lips, they will get it.
If you wonder what foods you could work with, just go to where the baby food is, look at the different foods and combinations they prepare, compare those foods with what you eat. Make your meal plan and the baby's plan.

i'm a peds nurse the only thing that really works is trying it over and over and over again! Some babies just don't like baby food, you just have to keep offering it. I know it not the answer you wanted but it's the 100% truth... hope it gets easrier for you.

Never spoon-fed glop to my daughter. Her first meal consisted of lobster, an orange slice, and potato salad. At 6 1/2 months try steamed broccoli and asparagus spears, cheese curds, toast, sliced apple and cucumber, etc.
No need for goo forced into her mouth.
If she can't pick up the food and feed herself she's not ready.

I started rice cereal when she was 4 months and she has been loving it, no problems at all. I assumed she was going to do great with baby food. I have only been doing it for three days though, so I guess I should keep trying for a little while

I have a 6 month old and she only likes some jarred baby foods. If she is not eating what I offer I will try mixing it in with her cereals. She usually will eat it that way. I have also tried making my own food (boiling and blending carrots with rice cereal). She seemed to like what I made much better than what was in the jar. Hope this helps!

I agree with Sara about baby led weaning. We started with purees and mushes and then our baby got bored with being spoon fed and gave up on it and wasn't used to textured foods. It's much easier and more interesting for them to start on finger foods. There are plenty of things they can safely eat without teeth like sticks of boiled veg and fruit and soft fruits like bananas.
Also even though she is over 6 months you don't need to force the food issue. Milk is all they really need until they are 1 year old. Has she shown the signs of being ready for food - taking an interest in eating, not pushing things out with her tongue?

when you say baby food, you mean purchased from a supermarket in jars? If this is so, my son doesn't touch that stuff at all.
What we did is skin(important) a carrot and boil it and into the blender or just mash it by fork. He loves it. sweet potates and pumkin mashed and mixed together. He is now 3 and has never touched the jar food. it is not good quality anyway and when you do your daily cooking just throu a few pieces in the blender.
as you run out of recipes very quickly we got a book optimum nutrition for babies by lucy burney. it is really good in variety and also explaining some of the basics.
