Hi my baby is 7 months, 1 week old and just out of no where, refused to breastfeed. Normally, I nursed her every few hours and she has been eating baby food as well as some of our food in between. I think her gums started bothering her and she started teething again (she has her 2 bottom teeth in already bout a week ago). Its been 3 days and she wants nothing to do with breastfeeding. She has always refused the bottle and formula in a cup. I pumped a few times and have tried putting my breast milk in a bottle and Cup and she refuses! Ive tried Pediasure, different formulas, and also vanilla soy milk. She has only been sipping some water out of a cup (3 oz) and iI got her to drink a little Pedialyte (1 oz.) Yesterday. ..she has been eating food fine throughout the whole day, though. Will she get enough liquids from eating or should I be as super worried as I am a wreck? I dont want her to get dehydrated and I've never heard of this happening with a 7 month old...

Try pumping and give her some of your breast milk using a spoon and try to introduce the bottle slowly. My son hated the bottle too but with time he got used to it. At this point baby food has not enough nutrients for the development of your baby so she still needs to drink her milk. You can also try not to give her a lot of food that way when she gets really hungry she doesn't have any other choice other than drinking her milk. Hope this helps, good luck!

Ok Vanessa, how old is your baby now if you dont mind me asking? And how is her development going? Im very worried my baby doesnt have enough nutrition off of food alone... She is still refusing to drink milk or formula even from a cup.

Yea she has been taking in a lot of solids. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and sometimes a snack (small amount-banana, applesauce, etc.). I guess I can see where that could pose a problem now, but i never saw that coming since she nursed every few hours all day and woke up in the night sometimes ... thanks for the link also. Very helpful

Thank you so much! Yes she woke up really thirsty and drank a little from a cup because she refused to nurse or drink it in a bottle

you can also use "orajel" for her gums. Either that you can massage her gums to makes it feel better. Its hard to babies start teething, they go through pain and they get cranky. Just comfort her as long as you can, be patient, it will fast as soon as the tooth comes out. Hope this will help you!.

hi there!.. how are you?.. Its normal to a baby to refuse breast milk once she/he been eating baby food... As long as she/he still have an intake of breast milk because once the baby start eating they get full, still offer them breast milk. It happen to my baby girl before. She likes baby food more than breast milk but i still make sure i breastfeed her still. But your doing good. As long as she/he eats pretty good that's all matters. I am a mother of a 3 year old baby girl..
