My son has had a constant cough since he was born, I took him to a specialist and they put him on prevacid for reflux. They say the acid builds up and can impact the sinuses and make it look like a cold. They will have coughing and a runny nose, sometimes even watery eyes. He never spits up so we didnt think it was that but the prevacid took effect in a couple days and it fixed it. Can't hurt to ask about that.

I don't know where you live but you need to find a specialist. When my son was 11 months he got bronchitis. The average pediatrician doesn't really know what to do so try a Ped Pulmanologist, a doc that specializes in allergies and asthma. I'm not saying he has those things but those doctor are more ap to figure out what is going on.

my daughter had this problem a few months back.and the doctor told me her chest was clear but that she possibly had croup..there was no medication but he reccomended cool mist humidifier or bundling her up and taking her out to the cool air at night. he said the cooler air releaves some of the irritation in the throat causing her to cough..good luck hon. its hard and hers lasted well over a month

If the doctor says his chest is clear there is only one reason for him to be coughing and thats his nose. Babys actually only cough due to congestions/drip from their noses tickleing their throats. They aren't capiable of clearing their throats like you and I. The trick is to figure out whats causing the tickle in the throat. Allergies is VERY possible. its not likely your breast feed 11 month old has had a cold this long. Allergies very commonly are mistaken for a long cold in the average adult so its easy to mistaken them in a baby. The most common allergies that cause cold like symptoms is smoke, dust and pets.

well my son is five years old and he has done it since he was born almost. i personally thank it is just allergies. my son got better after the doctor put him on allergy med. including zertec, singular, and allergy drops that you put under the tounge everyday. allergy testing is required for allergy drops. i really hope your son gets better.

Start with a pulmonary specialist, they specialize in asthma, reflux and allergies. That will cover alot of the suggestions here. Our next stop if the reflux doesn't stop is a GI specialist. Good luck, its no fun listening to them cough all the time.

My children ar easthnatic and get coughs often too. A vaporizer at night in their room, children's vicks on the soles of their feet with thick socks, and the extreme is xopenex via a nebulizer. The first two even for one night works wonders:)

My son was having a constant cough also, and for a few monts his pediatrician tried antibiotics and cough medicine. Finally she decided to go for alergies and told me to use liquid zirtec. I washed everyting in his bedroom, from curtains, to rugs, etc.. It worked! So was alergy. Plus now I give him a bath before bed, it also helps. Talk to your pediatrician about it.

Recently my daughter had a very nasty cough that lasted & lasted, but our doctor said it was common & to just treat the symptoms with regular over the counter Robitussin... Finally after my daughter began loosing sleep with this cough I took her to a different doctor who diagnosed her with Bronchitis! Apparently all her drainage had immflamed her air ways thus this bad cough... She perscribed us an at home breathing treatment with a nebulizer & Albuterol. I can tell you it instantly helped her cough & we will do this for a month! Then she should be just fine, it really has been great! Again her lungs were clear so I think this is something that can be over looked commonly?

I dont know if this will help, but when my son is sick and he coughs alot I put Vicks Vapor Rub on his feet and then I put his socks on. It seems to help his cough. I'll pray for you. Good Luck and God Bless!

my little girl is exactly the same. she is 8 months old. and it started from being 3months old. i was constantly at the GP worrying about it. but it turns out she is forcing it! she is making herself cough as its a new noise and sensation to her. its just like gurgling to her. she also likes to try and make herself sneeze... if the GP says he is ok then i shouldnt worry too much,

Oh and you might want to consider allergies. Forgot to mention that last time

he is young and his immune system needs time to get stronger. So its likely that he has had many colds not one long one. A humidifier while he sleeps might help but as long as he has no fever and its just a cough he will probably be fine. And this will probably help him be sick less when he is older. I agree that breast milk is good for him but you may want to look into vitamins for him as most cows milk is fortified with vitamins. Good luck!
