My 9 1/2 month old is sitting up, then waking up and crying in the middle of the night. I think she cant work out how she got in this position, so freaks out. Any suggestions to help or stop this?

This is just a phase and she will learn to snuggle down again soon. Try not to reward her with your attention when you go into her just lye her down and leave. If you can leave her to sort herself out but if she is having trouble lyeing down then sort her out and leave.

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about. My son went through this when he learned to pull to standing and my 10 month old is currently going through this with standing. It's a phase. My daughter's been doing it for the last month but it already seems to be getting better. She's been dropping back down to sitting now and then laying down on her own some of the time.
What I do with my daughter is hug her while she's in the crib, stroke her hair, shhhh her and then lay her back down and cover her up. She may moan a bit, but I quietly leave the room. If she's really fussy I lay my hands on her chest or back while she's laying down and this usually soothes her. Once she is calm, I attempt to leave the room again. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Cuddle. Lay down. walk out. Repeat :) At first it took me up to an hour to get her to sleep. Now it only takes about 15 mins at most, but generally only takes one or two times of laying her back down.
Just keep in mind it's a phase. It'll pass. :)
