Help!! Thumbsucking!!

My baby will be 6 months old in 2 weeks. I decided to wean her off the pacifier 10 days ago because she was constantly losing it, getting frustrated, and not getting quality sleep especially at night (would wake up screaming for it every time she lost it!). So we went cold turkey. A few days of crying and fussing for it went by and she was fine, occasionally fussing before bedtime but sleeping for much longer stretches at night. 2 days ago she found her thumb to put herself to cute as she looks, I am so worried that this may become a bad habit and that i will regret taking her pacifier away too early :( anyone has experience in this subject or any thoughts or advice??

If you want to try and prevent a thumb sucker.... try going back to the pacifier.

I didn't want my kids to suck their thumbs, so I had no issue w/ their 'binky addiction'. ;) It's really your choice though. I prefer pacifiers since they can be taken away at a later time (my girls were 3 weeks shy of turning 2)...unlike the thumb which you don't really have any 'control' over (my niece sucked her thumb til right before turning 7). Other parents prefer their children to suck their thumb over the pacifier BECAUSE it's more in the child's control.

I don't know if it's so bad. My son sucks his thumb, he started when he was teething his molars at 12 months. It's easier than a pacifier, and it's always with him. He's 2 now and still sucks his thumb when he goes for a nap or bedtime. It doesn't really bother me. If he still does it when he's four I'll start some sort of reward system to get him to stop, but that's a worry for the future. :)

If you really hate the idea, maybe you should give the soother back, because you're right, it's easier to take that away. Personally, I'd rather have the easy sleeper right now and deal with the thumb-sucking later, but I think that choice might be different for everyone.
