My toddler (16 months) fell and hit his head on the bookshelf. He's acting normal, pupils are even, and he fussed for a bit, but calmed down after cuddling with mommy & playing with ice pack. He does have a small knot and it have a long scratch sorta gash on it. He didn't bleed & still isn't, so it's just a scratch. Just want reassurance he's okay. He seems okay. I'm just a nervous mommy, and he's my first & only kid. Should I keep him up late? Or is he okay to let sleep if he gets sleepy? Should I check on him & wake him frequently? Or just let him sleep like normal?

Ive had this happen too my son, what the nurse at my docs office said was give a dose of tylenol and keep him up for an hour and watch him closely, if hes seems normal after that, he cab sleep but keep an eye on him. Im sure hes fine thou, kids atte tough lil suckers. But any issues just take him to the er. Good luck, I hope I helped.

I totally understand and if I were in your shoes I would be uncertain about my own judgment too. You're doing the right thing by monitoring his behaviour, etc.

Thanks. My gut says he's fine, but I guess I'm insecure in my own judgement. So I just like reassurance. I honestly don't think he shows any signs that he needs to go to the er or anything.

The best advice I received prior to having my first babe was...go with your gut/instincts. A mother will always know her baby best - people can think your nuts/crazy/irrational...whatever, but its your baby's safety and well-being that's most important. If you still feel uncertain/worried...take him to the doctor's or hospital. My son ran into a problem at 3 days and I was off to emerg in record breaking time...I would rather be told by a doctor that everything is ok, then to be worrying at home. All the best to your lil' guy.
