Help!! What is this?

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

My 2 week old son just developed some sort of rash within an hour yesterday. It is on his face, ears, and forehead. It is pimple like only if they were on your own face they don't look like they need to be popped. What is this? He had baby acne before this episode. He is breast fed, has not yet been vaccinated, has not come into contact with any irritants and I do not use any fragranced lotions on him. Help!

It's normal baby acne. It'll go away in a week or two. It's just from his oil glands maturing and beginning production.

That sounds like heat rash or teething rash to me. But he is a bit young for teething rash! The fact that it came up so quickly is what made me suggest it though. Also as the others have said, possibly baby acne.

Does he have a temperature? That is a temp of 38 degrees C (100.4F) or more? The other thing to look for is whether the spots "blanch". That means they dissapear breifly when you press on them. If they dont blanch or your son has a fever then see a doctor, otherwise it is probably just one of the many strange skin conditions that newborns get.

It could just be baby acne. My daughter used to get get a little rash her doctor told me it was a heat rash, I started washing everyones clothes in baby detergent since she got it on her face where it was coming in contact with our clothes. That seemed to make a difference.

Baby acne. Both my children got it from the age of 2 weeks to 4 weeks and then it went away. It's from premature pores. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure you're not over dressing him and like you're already doing stay away from irritants like fragrant soaps and lotions. Wipe his face with a warm cloth twice daily.
